Cool

I'm changing over to electric fans in the Challenger. I installed march a serpentine belt system last year and it was recommended to use electric fan only. Well, I don't listen very good. I modified the water pump pullly to accept a clutch fan. It cools great with the clutch fan but the problem I have is the water pump pully does not have enough belt wrap. Only about 25% of the pully makes contact with the belt. Under heavy load the belt slips. Without a fan there is no slipping.
Hello Joe,

You have a very nice electric fan set up there, but I must admit that I've never been a fan of electric fans. Another power draw on an older Mopars weak electrical system. Does this unit use relays to help lessen the power draw?

I also love your serpentine belt system, but it's a shame that they didn't design it to use a stock factory style fan clutch.

Richard,
I was pretty disappointed when I found out I couldn't use a mechanical fan so that's why I tried to modify the pully to work. I'm not a big fan of electric fans either. I'm using 1 relay per fan. I don't want have a problem with to much draw. They can draw up to 65 amps at start up if they both start at the same time. I have them set to start at different temps so I won't have a big draw all at once. The car also has a 110 amp alternator so I shouldn't tax the battery.
Sounds as if you've done your homework Joe. I really don't have anything against the way the electric fans cool, as I've heard that they can do a good job if set up correctly, it's just the large draw on the electrical system that they add, but if you're running relays along with the higher output alternator, you should be good to go. Are you running aftermarket heavy duty wiring to handle the 110 amp alternator?

I did same setup on mine Joe.. different relays and temps for each fan. Also went with a single wire GM Powermaster alternator, the stock one couldn't handle the fans, fuel pump, and MSD setup.

Tested the car out today and everything went well. Should be all set for the trip to Carlisle! I just need to clean things up.
Don't forget to stop and pick me up on the way Joe, I be waiting at the corner as usual
Andy, we're going to have to pull a Mr T on you to get you to Carlilse.
