Spent hours getting some stainless up to snuff. I've decided I hate polishing stainless steel. I can't believe how much of this stuff I have left to do.

Start with a DA sander, if there is a deep scratch I start with 150 grit.

otherwise it's 220, 320, 400, 500, 600, 800, 1000. Could probably stop at 800.

Then on to the 8 inch buffing wheels. Start with a sisal wheel and black emery cut and color. Then black emery on a sewn wheel cut and color. Then green stainless compound on a sewn wheel cut and color. Last step is a loose flannel wheel with red jewelry rouge.

You really have to sand a lot between each grit on the DA. If not the scratches you left from lower grits don't show up til you get to the green compound and the only way to fix it is go back to sand paper. Also with the black emery I apply more emery to the wheel like every 10'seconds. But only hold the emery bar to the wheel for 1 second. To much makes a greasy mess. To little doesn't cut. After that just use the different compounds as needed.

I use separate gloves, rags and wheels with each compound so there is no cross contamination.

My my pieces aren't perfect but there as close as I'm getting. So far I've not completed a piece in under 4 hours. I'm hoping that as I progress I'll get the nack better and cut that down.
