  Rear Main Seal-Opinions wanted
Posted by: 67RTBlue - 07-16-18, 03:29 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (19)

I have the motor and tranny out to fix all the leaks. I am suspect the rear main is leaking but can't be sure. I have read so many online forums to see what seal is best and how to do it blah blah blah. I am worried the seal might not be bad, or it might be slightly leaking and if I replace it could become worse! I have attached some photos for you guys to mull over and give opinions. The spray pattern on the back of the block was odd. Slinging around from the crank/flywheel? Also I did have a leak at the sending unit which did run down the back of the block last year that has since been fixed. I know the valve covers are always suspect too but don't see anything around that area that really makes me think. I am changing the valve cover gaskets again just because.
There was a VERY small drip/run coming down from the crank on the seal holder. Side seals appeared dry. Do I RTV the outside side seal areas along with the flange that meets the oil pan and pray? Or change the damn thing. Motor only been together 1.5yrs and 1,000 miles since total rebuild back to stock.

  Can anyone verify sequence #?
Posted by: qluber - 07-15-18, 09:13 PM - Forum: Car History -- Build Sheet Lost & Found - Replies (1)

Just got back from Carlisle. I learned a ton about my car. Found out that it is an extremely late build as in last day 7/11 with a sequence (white board #) later than any thing documented so far. Does anyone know how to verify? 1969 Coronet R/T Lynch rd car.

After a decade of Motorcycle, Corvette and Classic Cars, the Chatterbox will be closing it's doors for good the first week of September. The owner decided it was time to hang it up and put it on the market.

So if you live in NEPA, NNJ or NY State stop in before it's gone for good

Can anyone tell me if the needle on a 68 /69 GTX non rally dash tachometer comes off by pulling on it, or does it screw on and off? Also has anyone refaced one with the masks?

  convertible rear seat trim
Posted by: bike_guy123 - 06-26-18, 06:17 PM - Forum: Coronet Restoration/Paint Shop/Body Shop - Replies (3)

Looking for a little help / guidance with the installation of the 2 trim panels that go behind the top of the rear seat in a 66 / 67 convertible. I can't remember how they came out. If anyone has any pics of this or can explain how they mount in. One that has the stainless trim mounted to it that the boot slides into.... that one is pretty easy, the one I don't know for sure is the panel that has the slotted key hole mounts in it........where does it belong?

Spent the last year and a half playing with this in my spare time; something I always wanted to do 11467114681146911470 The hood insulation was made from a piece taken from the actual original hood insulation from my car, the paint is from the same can that I used on the real car.

Pulled motor and trans yesterday ...
Posted by: 67RTBlue - 06-23-18, 01:54 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Time to fix a few things and it was easier to pull the motor/tranny. Dropped out out the bottom.
One summer on the road after ground-up resto and everything leaks!
Here’s the to-do:
Oil pan-install correct 402 pan
Tranny leaks-front seal? Converter is dry on the outside.
Power steering box leaks around input-swap in a firm feel Stage 2 (3wks to get!)
Disc brake calipers leaking-rebuild (a body calipers)
Install Mini Starter
Lower control arm bushings(rubber crumbling) NOS arms but prob 40years old.
Lower control arm stiffening plates-just because they’re out and cheap.
Exhaust cutouts -O-ring not sealing and leaks

Any advice tips always welcome

FUN!!!
