The Max build = 1967 R/T 440 4-speed Dana-60
#1
Decided to make a place I can post what's up with Max since I am always tinkering on it. For those of you that don't know Max, we bought it 30 years ago and drove it and raced it for many years then parked it due to it needing more work than we could afford. A few years back we decided to get it back on the road and make a nice driver car and have some fun.

It has a `62 413 bored to a 426, dual quad Weiand intake with two 500 CFM Comp Carters, original 4-speed, Dana-60 3.54.

I'll be extremely interested in hearing what your plans are for Max's drive train in the coming months due to you mentioning that you're working on a new engine. Cool

We are having some ticking noises at certain RPMs in Max so I pulled the cam and found a odd wear pattern on the fuel pump lobe so I pulled the push rod and it is 40 thousands shorter than it use to be. I don't see anything wrong on other lobes but did find some lifters worn so its shot either way. Now I am checking spring rates for new cam, and pretty sure they are too strong but not positive yet. With all the tools I have I cannot get the three layers of springs to all compress at the same time to remove one for inspection in the car, so looking like heads have to come off. I really appreciate Mike taking time to help me pick out a proper cam and give me input on spring rates and such. Still no picks as I haven't gotten my main computer back from shop yet....it broke, lucky I didn't just blow it up since it sure would be fun.

I have skinned more than a few knuckles trying that exact same job, if I ever have to do it again I would be wearing mechanics' gloves for sure. I do not envy you with this task, not at all but all the power to 'ya! Removing the head as you mentioned is the right move though, you can then inspect everything else with proper scrutiny.

With the cylinder heads off of the engine Andy, a tool like this valve spring removal and installation tool would be extremely helpful.
