Non Coronet Related-My Autorama Detroit 2018 Cars
Posted by: 67RTBlue - 03-21-18, 12:16 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

This year I entered my '96 Grand Sport Corvette (1 of 1,000) along with a matching Go Kart. My Dad bought the Go Kart back in '85 and custom painted it to match his custom full size '85. Its been in their basement for the last 25-30yrs. Last year prior to the '17 show I started putzin with trying to have it read to have in the show with my Dad's '67 R/T last year but ran outta time. It worked out better for this year as I was able to re-create what he did for the 85 show by having the full scale car and matching kart. Took a 1st place with the Go Kart and 3rd with my real car.
Custom features on the Go Kart are:
Working fog/brake lamps
Custom seat/carpet and door trim panels
Hand made exhaust tips chromed
Customized golf cart hubcaps to resemble real car wheels
Hand made rear wheel flares like real car
Custom made emblems and body decals

Had a blast again being in the show!

Hey everyone. Bought my 1969 Super Bee about 4 years ago and have had a perma-grin ever since! Love the car and the headaches/troubleshooting these old machines give us.
I've been a member of FBBO for a while (where I found the car) and thought these forums would be a good place for me and the Bee.

  CONVERTIBLE FLEX
Posted by: bike_guy123 - 03-05-18, 09:29 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (5)

I finally dropped a motor and transmission in my '66 convertible......A dirty old running 273 out of my 67 500. I had a friend help, and I knew he was gonna say "your not gonna drop that dirty motor in her are ya" I laughed, and replied "yes, I need to get excited about this thing, and one good way will be to drive it around the block." Since I have owned it, it has never moved under its own power.................and, maybe, just maybe by the end of the week?????

I have a quick questions for you convertible gurus..... I can't remember putting this car on jackstands with a motor in the engine bay. After the motor went in last week, I raised the front end using the K-frame in order to adjust the torsion bars...I proceeded to put jack stands on the frame just behind the firewall, seemed when I lowered the car down to the jack stands, there was a ton of flex on the front end. Is that a no no? is it normal for it to flex that much or am I missing something? I know convertibles lack a lot of structural strength by not having a solid roof, but this seemed pretty excessive. Can someone advise me on this?

Going to Look at at a '66
Posted by: JimKueneman - 03-02-18, 10:28 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

Ok guys I am getting more serious..... I'm going to look at a '66 500 on Saturday in Phoenix when I take the '68 500 to the H.E.M.I show.... It has been disassembled and on a rotisserie with the underside restored and painted the original silver. It has been a desert car its live and has no rust, or that is the story. What I am told it is does not have the correct rear axel (the one it has is too wide and used only to roll it around) and needs the transmission.[/FONT]

1966 Dodge Coronet 500, Factory 361ci big block, 2bbl, console auto, pwr steer & brakes, a/c, 112K miles, Original silver poly ext, black vinyl top, black interior, have Certicard too.

I know I have asked this question in general terms before but what should I look for not being there that would make this way harder than I want it to be to restore. Is dealing with the 361 and getting a transmission for it a difficult hunt? For the '68 I could by all the weatherstripping, rubber shields, body seal kits, etc that I needed. Are all these basic restoration items available for the '66?

He is asking $5900, I am thinking if I can get it for $5k and put $15k in restoring it I will have about a break even'ish car like my '68.

Thought from the experts on these old girls?

Thanks,
Jim

  motor for my 65 coronet
Posted by: danielgbrooks@yahoo.com - 02-23-18, 03:12 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello everyone,
Here's my question, I have a 65 coronet 500 factory 273 car and the original 273 is done. My question is how new of a motor can I drop in this car where it's an exact mate to the factory transmission? I still have the cable shifted transmission which I want to keep and have a lead on a 1985 318 motor,(I think that was the year), my car is bone stock and I don't want any kind of high performance motor just a cruiser. I know a roller motor is a different kind of beast but would really like a drop in motor without any issues. I know they changed things when they went to a roller motor.
Thanks for your help, Dan

1955 Dodge/Plymouth door handle button removal
Posted by: dodge55 - 02-11-18, 06:10 PM - Forum: Coronet Restoration/Paint Shop/Body Shop - Replies (2)

Anyone ever taken out the door handle button from the door handle before? It looks like the the back round housing is wedged into place holding the button into place and there is a slot to use a screwdriver to pry it out. But, I don't want to break anything. I want to rechrome all 4 of my handles, but I have to get the buttons out first.
