  1968 Coronet value
Posted by: jhutch33 - 05-21-21, 03:26 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (17)

I'm fairly new to mopars, so I'm curious. I know there are a lot of variables, but how much would you guys say a 1968 Coronet with a 318 motor (not numbers matching) with an automatic transmission is worth? It has new paint and interior and runs good with a rebuilt motor and transmission. I just have no idea on value, so I'm curious.

Thanks

  Non-Mopars you've owned
Posted by: 67440Dodge - 05-07-21, 10:27 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (13)

Time to post the non-Mopar cars you've owned..

11 1969-1971 VW Beetles/Super Beetles. A 1970 was my first car and my first engine rebuild. Did my first automatic (automatic clutch, you still shifted) to 4 speed conversion on the 71 Super Beetle (by "Super" VW meant macpherson front struts and 2 extra HP). I was a VW mechanic for a year and half or so...

1956 4 door and 1957 2 door sedan Chevy's. The 56 had a straight six/auto but it didn't run right and needed body work. The 57 was a complete waste case, my friend got it from same guy I got my 56 from. He gave it to me when he realized it was beyond his ability to fix up. (He already had a 55 4 door that would smoke most 60's muscle cars). it was so bad water had frozen inside a cylinder and pushed the cylinder into the water jacket. (Shame it was a 283 Power Pack block with fuelie heads) It went to the scrap yard, the 56 got sold to someone I used to work with.

1966 Pontiac Lemans. This car was a blast to drive, only 60K on the clock, it needed a timing chain to get running. My intention was to make a GTO clone of it but once I found the frame rotted where front section met the side. No body shop would touch it, So it got stripped for parts and scrapped.

1972 Chevelle.. biggest mistake of my life, but all I could afford at the time. Drove it home needed so much work I gave up on it and sold it.

1979 Chevy Camaro Z28 350 4spd 3.73 pegleg rear. Got it when stationed in San Diego, put headers and duals on it, muffler shop flipped when I drove it in with no cats on it (but did a exhaust anyways). Put a used 305 in it with one car head and one truck head and a used PAW (anyone remember them?) cam it it and would eat Grand Nationals for breakfast.

1990 Chevy S-10 4.3V6 5spd. Quick little truck, pretty evenly matched against a buddy's 5.0 tricked out Mustang (daddy worked for Ford). It was a lemon due to unfixable rear wheel ABS.

1991 Chevy S-10 4.3V6 auto. Engine blew 2 weeks after buying it. After that it was a good truck.

1993 Chevy Lumina Z-34 with a V6 made by Mercury Marine. Comfy and fast cruiser.

1991 GMC S-15 Jimmy 4X4... damn that was fun in the mud and to go off roading with. (owned it 8yrs before getting the Dakota)

2000 VW Jetta an ok Econobox, put 145K miles on it in 3yrs

2003 Chevy 1500 pickup.. even with V6 fuel mileage sucked. Got rid of it a week before Katrina hit.

2005 Toyota Corolla The absolute most reliable car I've ever owned. Never saw the inside of a dealer or repair shop. for 300K miles it was just tires and brakes (did shocks once). Starter went at 300K, then A/C condensor blew at 305K, finally sold it at 307K miles. And I Banging Gearsed the hell out of it and clutch was still good when I sold it.

2011 Ford Fusion.. needed a family car as I was taking care of a elderly parent.

2016 Chevy Cruze needed a econobox and it was only thing available with a 5 speed

2017 Chevy standard cab pickup.. needed a truck and it was the only standard cab around.

  Mopars you've owned
Posted by: 67440Dodge - 05-07-21, 12:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (16)

Post Mopars you've owned over the years...

1985.. First one was a 1977 stepside D150 pickup.. 318/auto quick bugger. Ran great til I put a set of 360 heads and cam on it that my boss (in a automotive machine shop) recommended and snapped a valve after 50 miles. Guy refused to honor it, said the piston was fine despite the gouges in the top and "I'll sell you a new valve". So I sold it for $100

1999 Dodge Dakota Standard cab. Reportedly one of the last LA 318/5 speeds Dodge made. Only had it 6 months as even when babied it would only get 17mpg on the highway

2001 or so.. saw an ad for a 68 Roadrunner in paper. ran great, but floors and trunk were removed due to rust. Next to it was a fairly solid looking 66 Coronet 500. Had a 440 in it and a 727 out of a 71 R/T Challenger vert (yes Piper that trans could be worth a lot of money to someone). Drove it for awhile found rot on the trans crossmember, pulled carpets and found floors rotten. Fixed crossmember and floors, then found out rear rails and crossmember were holding on by a prayer. Dug more into it, needed 3 frame rails, 1 front shock mount, inner fenders and rear shock crossmember. Estimate just to fix that was more than car was worth, so stripped it for parts, made most of my money back and gave lot away.. It's now a front fender on a Hyundai built down south..

Bought a 67 out of NC, only rust on car was front floors and small patch in trunk. took drivetrain from 66, redid motor/trans and went high 11's in it. Motor took a dump with overheating, so put a 383 with EFI, converted to 4spd with Gear Vendors, added sway bars front and back and it's a blast to drive. Still have it 18yrs later. Needs a paint job but that's a major undertaking, I just want to drive...

2011 Dodge Ram 1500 standard cab long bed stripper. 5.7L motor, it was fun as hell to drive. Traded it in for a family car.

2014? Ram 1500 standard cab short box (first year of Ram brand, still had Dodge logos inside). V6 motor, good gas mileage. Got rid of it after someone rammed into back bumper and a week after replacing it someone did it again.

1973/4 Dodge D150 standard cab short box. Leaning tower of power and 4spd. Could never get it to run right (frigging lean burn) so gave it to a friend in NC, he needed a project to keep him occupied.

2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn Mega Cab short box. 5.7L motor, wrecked it 3 months after I bought it. Initial estimate was $7900, final total was over $28K. 7 months in body shop hell due to dealer not doing their job on the unobtainable steering rack. It's fast as hell and does a hell of a burnout...

  Goings on at the board

1) We know the site is NOT mobile friendly. For awhile the only fix was to upgrade to the latest version hosted at vBulletin for a $5K a year fee...But, there are apparently some changes we can add and with a either a regular mobile web browser or a aftermarket app download they may fix the issues we've seen in the past. At top of the list is image uploading, we know it's a nightmare so maybe one of these new add ons will help.

2) Kevin is learning more and more about databases and queries, so sometime in the future we may have a registry. I know he's been on FaceCrook trying to promote the site.

3) If I was a true HTML developer I could link the site so FB posts appear here and vice versa. But I don't know how it works if you don't have an account (I know, I'm one of the few that doesn't). If you're a HTML developer and have linked into FB before, give me a shout. We can't pay but I think members would be uber grateful to you.

So guys, until we can get stuff straightened out, post. Post vids of your latest projects, holeshots, heck, car shows you've gone to. Even if you've sold your 'Net, stop in and let us know how you're doing and if you got something else or a new project. Just no politics or religion, fastest way for best friends to become mortal enemies is to start those 2 subjects up.

And again, any questions PM or email me and I'll do my best to help. This place used to be hopping, maybe someday we can get it back it's old ways..

Mike

  Redirect Issue
Posted by: 67440Dodge - 05-04-21, 10:58 PM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Some of you may have experienced issues with the site not redirecting you after you log in (if you haven't set a checkmark in the "remember me" under the login box). I believe it's now resolved, if you have any issues with it, email me at mjmal67@outlook.com and let me know ok?

Apparently this has been an issue for awhile but because people couldn't log in all the time, they couldn't report it.

There are a bunch of great folks here on the DCR. I have been fortunate enough to meet a few members in person over the years, purchased some nice parts and even got parts for free. Recently DCR member Mark Z did some very nice work on my valve covers for me and I want to give him a BIG thank you. He installed a custom oil fill plug and fabricated some 1/4 spacers for them. The workmanship is superb and he went out of his way to make sure they came out right - and they did. He went so for as to ask Indy Cylinder head for valve cover bolt pattern dimensions and even sent me templates to check fitment on the heads. Take a look at his work -

These covers had no holes in them other than the bolt holes, now I can put oil in the engine!

The spacers are 1/4 thick.

The spacers are screwed to the valve covers with tiny screws and they will seal to the head with an o-ring so no more valve cover gaskets!

Lastly he counter sunk the bolt holes so the allen-head bolts will be flush.

These valve covers are gonna stand out at the next Mopar event I attend and I'm sure somebody is going to ask me about them.

Thanks again Mark!
