  Removing stuck manifold on 1976
Posted by: knoxnagel - 04-28-15, 03:36 AM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (4)

I am stripping down my 1976 360 engine (first time), and I am stuck - literally. I've got all 12 bolts out, 6 per side, and everything else is off the manifold. The thing won't budge. I've tried a mallet, hitting with a hammer with a wood block in between, soaked it in PB Blaster, and tried to go around with a putty knife. I can get the putty knife completely in on the front side, but the gasket in all other sides is like the block and manifold are welded together. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - I'm getting close to giving it up.

On a side note - I tried to take off the distributor to get a better view of the rear of the manifold, and I basically took everything apart and still couldn't get the distributor off the shaft. Haynes manual said to remove a screw and pull up - my so much. Anyone have some advice?

  AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Bad Lifters! Cam??????
Posted by: markz - 04-25-15, 11:21 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Builder had messed up the push rod length in my daughter's 67 Coronet 500. This led me to changing the lifters in the engine.

I have 26 runs on the engine and maybe 200 street miles.

So I pulled the lifters out. 6 or 7 lifters are bad with 2 to 3 of those being pretty bad. No idea on the condition on the cam, but my bet is it is hurt. I will be calling comp cams on Monday to get their opinion. My current plan is to go ahead and put it back together with the new lifters put some runs on it and limit street miles.

I guess I will put a hydraulic roller cam in it when I put the motor in the GTX.

I thought I did everything right. I was running 20W-50 Valvoline VR1 racing oil.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

  Coronets heart is broken!
Posted by: Warhawkfight34 - 04-24-15, 08:24 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Well after a short visit with my buddy who changed my oil pan and gasket he called me in for a meeting. Well he then proceeded to show me the
left side of the block had a crack in it. I cried and then had a few Beers.
My brother then looks at me and tells me no big deal it can be fixed.
Still I said no POS anything can be fixed but I still have to explain it to my wife!!! It is barely leaking. as a matter of fact when he showed me it wasn't leaking at all! I think I may drive her for the summer and then pull the engine to get it fixed this winter. So does anyone have an opinion on this or some advice? Thanks!!! Oh it is in the water jacket not an oil leak just antifreeze.
