  Funny story/valuable lesson!

So when I first went to move my '58 Coronet sedan from dad's garage to mine it had been sitting for several years. She needed a new battery and was sitting on tires that were in varying degrees of going flat. One that was on the rim stayed flat when I filled them. One thing I CAN do ( so I thought ) is change a tire. I was puzzled when I couldn't budge any of the nuts, if so the tiniest bit. I sprayed WD-40, and stepped on the tire iron with all my weight, I...snapped off the stud completely. Broke clean off the wheel. That seemed TOO strange. Why were the nuts frozen so badly? It took talking to a grzzled old mechanic to learn what some of you veterans already know, THE DAMN BOLTS ARE REVERSE THREADED. Crazy. Just for a couple years , '57 and '58? The story was that they did it at Dodge to save cost on the assembly line? Flip the car around? Any thoughts from people who know about this topic? I guess I could try that internet thingee...Big Grin

Last night leaving home I noticed my personal toy ('96 Corvette Grand Sport) had popped its hatch glass under the car cover. Well I pulled the cover back to check things. This has happened before when the battery died the car "wigs out" and the hatch popped open. Well upon cover removal I notice some brown liquid spots on the paint. Looking closer I notice some mouse turds. Well... The little prick made it INSIDE my car. Droppings all over the hatch, under the seats, across the cowl. He nibbled a burrow into some car wash towels I had in the hatch. I removed all personals and looked things over GOOD. I didn't see anywhere he chewed on the seats or insulation. Seems like he liked just the hatch area. I vacuumed all droppings and wiped down the interior-GROSS! Off to the hardware store and bought one of each remedy-traps of two different designs, glue traps and poison bait. Peanut butter was the treat and I placed the traps inside the car. Put the glue traps under the hood and couple on the garage floor.
This morning the trap under the hood got him. Gonna leave the rest just in case word got out about a nice warm place to spend the winter. Never had a problem in 7 years till now.
Sorry bud but my car is more important!

I would like to thank the forum and those who have contributed to its success for the nearly 10 years I've been coming here. You folks have entertained me, helped me and inspired me with your work and ideas.

Today I sold my '49 Dodge Coronet and am moving on to other projects.

It has been fun.

I am also encouraging the new owner Chris Coy to join your group. He has never done Mopar and he will need some help with some things, maybe even some ideas on how to undo what I have done.

Thank You,

Jim Graham

Posted by: MrCoronet - 03-14-16, 12:34 PM - Forum: The Muscle Car Years 1965-1970 - Replies (13)

Hi there all

This time - no question....;-)

Just got some spring feeling, taking my Coronet out for a small run....Picture taken 3,15 PM today, the sun was almost breaking thru the clouds
53 Fahrenheit outside.... it's getting better ;-)
The car creating a nice contrast against the old red house in the background. Still waits for the three to pop and the grass to start growing..
Like the stance of the car right now...but hmm looks like I must check out the exhaust a little....:-)

Have a nice day everybody

Tail panel Coronet 500- 66 ...always painted red between the taillights or full chrome?
Posted by: MrCoronet - 03-13-16, 01:32 PM - Forum: The Muscle Car Years 1965-1970 - Replies (9)

See question above ...

Mine are now in full chrome so to say - see picture... but think I can see some hint of red coler up in one corner

Is it some special color - Seen Tail panel red in some ads in US car parts store.

Or is it some red color with colorcode : XXX?

Question : Where the 500s tail panel always painted?

(In my ignorance I bought some dark dark red that matches the taillight color - but have still not painted it...)

Regards
Anders

Posted by: MrCoronet - 03-12-16, 01:57 PM - Forum: The Muscle Car Years 1965-1970 - Replies (16)

Good day Everybody :-)

Like the Title says....

Was Road Wheels (some says Magnum 500) a dealer "installed" option in 1966???

Some Mopar fans says Magnum in videos and so on...

But the correct name are Road Wheels - or??

Have a good one..

The Cure for never ending leaky 727
Posted by: Hibbing_Coronet_500 - 03-11-16, 02:55 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (1)

Last summer I rebuilt my 727 Transmission. I used top shelf parts and rebuilt it to stock specs. No race parts or trick parts.
I Installed it last fall just as summer was coming to a end.
I got to drive it a few times and all was good, except it still leaked after sitting for a few days.

My job keeps me gone allot and I was talking to a old mopar guy while I was staying out of town, and he asked me if my kick down linkage was adjusted correctly?
I said Yes!

He asked if I was sure?
He had me tell him how I did it. I told him and He said I did it wrong. He said if the Throttle valve ( kick down lever) is open when the car is sitting for any period of time the converter will drain back into the pan and overfill it and it will seep fluid.

The correct way is adjust the lower bell crank 1st.
You insert a 1/8 drill bit into the manifold bell crank locking in in place, ( look, you will see the hole )
Unsnap the rod coming up from the lower bell crank. If you can pull up more on the rod? Then its too long. Screw the snap clockwise until you can just snap it back on to the ball while lifting up on the rod.

From there the next adjustment is carb W.O.T. adjustment, (make sure you remove the drill bit)

In my case my throttle valve was off by 5/16 of a inch. I made the adjustment. Put a drip pan under it. That was in September. I went out to the garage for the first time since September and the oil pan was dry. Not a drop of oil.

There is also a corny 1970`s tech video on youtube showing how its done. They show the six cylinders first and about half way thru they get to V-8`s
