Modern Hemi swap 66 Cornet 500
Posted by: Tom66-500 - 04-06-16, 05:11 PM - Forum: Modernize your Coronet - Replies (41)

I need ya'lls opinion. I am seriously thinking about either a 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi swap for my 66 500. My car is considered a survivor car and is stock even down to the original paint. I love the idea of having the dependability and power gain of the new technology but do I dare do this to an all original car? If I do decide to do this, I plan on keeping the 318 poly and maybe build it and throw it back in someday. Please, tell me what you all think!

This would be a nice one to do up? Haven't seen too many 2 doors.

$1300 Canadian dollars or $990 USD ...

Winter had 6 months here in New England and it just decided to show up. I was dreaming of pulling my Coronet out of storage. Then snow, lots of it. And record cold tomorrow. Wahhhh! Someone send me a recent pic of your Coronet in the sun so I can live vicariously through you. Please.

Plug wire to header clearance-how close is too close
Posted by: 67RTBlue - 04-05-16, 02:17 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (5)

I've been playin around with a reproduction set of original wires routing them around the headers. I want to use the original style to keep as much of a stock appearance as possible-yes I know I have headers. I've got them layed out pretty nice but there are a couple of boots and wires are close. I'd hate to use socks but if I have to in a couple areas I will. I'm hung up on trying to use these wires and feel like I scored a victory with routing them today so be nice!
Look at what I have and let me know if I might have issues. Is it ok if a wire rests on the ceramic of another plug like that?

  New carb?
Posted by: Tom66-500 - 04-04-16, 08:54 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (13)

I rebuilt the old Stromberg on my 318 poly and am not happy with the results. Accelerator pump is sticking, after hours of sanding and careful filling, it still leaks between the throttle plate and the main body. I think I'm just gonna buy a new carb since I can't afford a 4 barrel intake right now. Does anyone have any suggestions on which 2 barrel carburetor to go with and where to get it?

  Dipstick colors

From what I've seen most tubes were bare. Handles mostly were engine color with the exception of a few special engines. This is a pic of what I believe to be the original handle but it has dark green paint on it. I included one of the spark plug wire brackets for color comparison to the original turquoise.
