Just became the 2nd owner of a 1966 coronet 440 that was originally bought in Los Angeles, with the vin saying it was built here too. It has a slant 6, but I think that will be coming out.

  Holly smokes.... Bad Bad

For those who do follow posts on here and answer to most questions, Like myself....

Holly smokes!!!

I replaced the adjuster sleeve on the right front tie rod assembly. Yup it was slopped out because the alignment guy never tightend up the clamps. Okay Threads were good on the ends, I chased them with a 1/2 x 20 thread chaser. Yeah Im anal...

Rewind a year ago, I replaced the steering box. TEXT BOOK replacement! Tight with thread locker..... or did I?

After the sleeve job I checked to see if clunk was gone. Nope!
Had the wife come out and run the wheel.

I watched and the steering box!
It was 100% off the mount and just laying there!

Greetings fellow Coronet fans. I'm new to the forums and wanted to say hello and show you a couple of pics of my "Barn Find" since I know everyone here seems to like pictures. My '67 500 is originally a 383/4speed car. vin WP27H77****** The pics attached show it in the barn where it was stored and then after getting it home and giving it a quick bath. It was somebody else's project that was never completed. They disassembled it and so it is missing some key components. Little things like the motor and tranny. The dash is complete along with the top cylinders and mechanism and most of the interior including the console is present. The side mouldings and most importantly the chrome/stainless for around the windshield are the items that are proving hard to get. I promised the wife that I would not start working on the drivetrain until I had these items. I did put a post in the parts wanted section but also wanted to say hello here and finally had the time to put up pictures. The story behind my finding the car is one for another time. If anyone has a convertible parts car sitting around rusted up to the door handles, let me know. I really want to get this classic back on the road.
Thanks, Mike

  Lower quarter panel
Posted by: Coronet 14 - 05-30-13, 12:52 AM - Forum: Coronet Restoration/Paint Shop/Body Shop - Replies (14)

1929The lower quarter panel behind rear tires rusted. I cannot find any lower replacement panels. Looking at the 72 Charger replacement lower rear quarter panel they look almost the same shape. Would that work? Or does anyone know where I can get the patch panels. I've looked at all the usual places and e bay.

I'm Here... Tampa Bay area with a 65' Coronet 500
Posted by: Steve P. - 05-29-13, 07:04 PM - Forum: New Members - Replies (9)

Hi all. I was here on the old site. I'm really happy to see this site up and running.

I'm Steve, for those who didn't catch it from my profile name, and I own a 65' Coronet 500.

I bought my "California car" in 2005' and was slowly gathering all parts needed to restore her. Well, until the bottom dropped out of buying and selling parts local. Now all has been put on hold for the past 4 or so years.. I am dying to get back to work on her. I'm not getting any younger and my memory is starting to fade. Also my memory is beginning to fail so I need to put her back together before I forget how.. lol...

My profile pic. is of the car when it was last on the road at the MOPARS AT THE STRIP show in 05'. The guy in the chair is a buddy who won B-Body modified with his 69' Charger R/T. That car was so freshly finished that we literally drove it to the show FROM the restoration shop. It didn't have 1 mile on it at the show.

Really glad to see this site back up and running well... CHEERS!!!!!!

Steve

  Old School Drag Racer
Posted by: Hemi Guy - 05-29-13, 04:05 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (16)

I have drag raced for over 40 years I have run B stock in the 60s to Super Gas in the 2000s. I have seen just about it all when it comes to Drag Racing. I am about to retire and have some time on my hands. My thought is that anyone that has a question about Drag Racing I would love to try to answer it for you. I have spent money on the wrong things and only wish that I had some one to help me as I would have saved a lot of money. So with that said I am all yours for the asking. Hows that Piper?

Here is my question for today..
Posted by: Hibbing_Coronet_500 - 05-28-13, 03:16 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (9)

Over the weekend I dropped my gas tank to replace sending unit and replace fuel filler and vent hoses.

I pulled the sending unit. And bench tested it. Empty 68 ohms. Slowly moving the float to full. The ohms went lower and lower then jumped to 85 ohms and at full position it was "open".

Okay.
Sending unit is junk. I tested the new one. Empty 73 ohms. Full 11 ohms. Smooth numbers while moving the float.

I have a old B body tank. I cut a 4 inch hole in the tank. I installed the old sending unit to see if there could be any adjustability in the float arm to tune it if needed?

A visual inspection. It is obvious that its a fool proof float setup. You can't even install the sending unit upside down by accident!

Now I have to weld up my old tank.

Okay.. tank went back in with all new items. I re tested the sending unit empty with it in the car and grounded!

73 ohms. Perfect!

Lower the car. I put in exactly 10 gallons of gas. (Half tank)

Start the car.
Fuel gauge says 1/4 tank.
The old sending unit with 10 gallons would register empty.

I have some improvement. I plan on running a new wire from terminal "C" to the sending unit.

I also have a new mother board with the intergrated voltage limiter.

What have I missed?

Thanks again
Joe
