Old School Drag Racer
#1
I have drag raced for over 40 years I have run B stock in the 60s to Super Gas in the 2000s. I have seen just about it all when it comes to Drag Racing. I am about to retire and have some time on my hands. My thought is that anyone that has a question about Drag Racing I would love to try to answer it for you. I have spent money on the wrong things and only wish that I had some one to help me as I would have saved a lot of money. So with that said I am all yours for the asking. Hows that Piper?

Okay Mr Hemi Guy, first of all, Thanks for offering your wisdom!
My question? We've all heard that "there is no substitute for cubic inches" With this in mind, what are your thoughts on the 451ci stroker motor which is a 400ci B motor with a 440 crank gound down to fit. (alternatively the 400 block machined to accept the larger 440 mains)?

Have you ever run this combination or known someone that has? I'm not as concerned with the racing part but I love to have the torque for playing on the street. My concerns are longevity and cooling issues.

Your thoughts please? and anybody else's that may read this thread.....

My thoughts are why spend the money doing all the machine work when you can get a bigger bang for your bucks doing a 440 and a strokes crank. Or just go 30 over to 446 Parts are a lot easer to get. Remember you can go to 528 from a 440. A 440 will run cooler and will last longer.

The reason I was curious was the benefits I had heard about the 451 Stroker. 65 lbs less weight from a "B" motor versus "RB" motor. (Assembled) and almost 3 lbs less rotating weight for pistons/rods. This motor was suggested by another local Chrysler motorhead and the weight reduction I pulled from I think it was an old Hot Rod magazine. It sounded intriguing but at the same time a little "Frankensteinish" so I wasn't sure. I will add that the person that mentioned this to me conveniently had a 400 block available for sale.
Thanks for the response.

First I need to know what you plan to put it in? If it is an A body a 360 works but if it is in a B body 440 +. Just remember all the other parts that you have to put behind your motor.

When are you going to put a real motor in your car?
