I've always worked on all my own cars with great success but have never worked on tranny's. I need to rebuild my 727 in my 66 Coronet due to slippage in drive. My question is, how difficult a task this is? I've heard so many good mechanics say they won't touch an automatic transmission and that's always deterred me. I'm very mechanically inclined and I believe I can do it. Any recommendations or tips with it being my first rebuild?

You can do it, but first make sure bands are adjusted properly a d kick down set properly.

Thanks! It does fine until it gets up to temp. Fluids fine so I'm guessing it's time for a rebuild. It's original, never been rebuilt or replaced.

I would say get a book and go for it. I have never rebuilt an auto but I did rebuild a 4 speed about 6 years ago. If the time comes for any auto rebuild I wouldn't be afraid to do it.

Also available from Amazon and Ebay.
It will take up space on your work bench and is messy so one of those big drip pans is a plus.

The plus side is the 727 and 904 have got to be the simplest auto transmissions on the planet.
I'm not afraid of taking one apart, but won't even try to drop the valve body on my E4OD in my van.

Awesome, thanks for all the advice! I'm ordering parts tomorrow and will try and have it completed by the end of April. I'm trying to get everything in order for a 5.7 Hemi swap. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thanks again!
