I was wondering what happened to everybody, I had been a member for a year or so before. I only have a chance to get on here once a week because of the lack of hours in a day.

  Mini starter with shorty headers
Posted by: Zaq - 01-13-13, 09:09 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (3)

I got a set of hedman shorty headers and when they came I noticed the Install sheet said it needed to be used with a mini starter. DOH! Should have ordered them at the same time. Anyway, the install sheet says to be used with McLeod 810159 or exact same style. I searched for that starter and it returns nothing. There are a bunch of mini style starters on Summit... but I don't want to order the wrong one and have to send it back... anyone ever used Hedman shorties? I'm leaning towards this starter:

Oh I should also mention its a 400 engine in my 66 coronet. Basically the question is are all mini starters the same specs?

  Head Bolt differences
Posted by: Piper - 01-13-13, 03:37 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (7)

Going through my collection of head bolts to see if I have anything usable I noticed I have two different markings on the head of the bolts, does anyone know what they denote?

The valves look pretty big in them, thinking about a port and polish for them, any sugestions how to improve them? Or should I leave them pretty much stock, after all its just a street car. But I want it to be 4 door that scoots!!

  Scored a set of 915's
Posted by: Piper - 01-12-13, 09:30 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

For cheap, looks like someone already put a larger exhaust valves in (I believe they are stainless did the ole magnet trick)

I am putting together a very close to stock 440. Its a 1972 bottom end and retains the factory pistons(they sit in the hole .125) So hoping the 915s will bring up the CR slightly from 8.2:1

To make them serviceable (want to keep it low buck) what do you guys think? Clean and surface them bolt them on and call it a day?
