Tail Light Bulb Holder
#1
Merry Xmas and a Happy NY to all.

Can anyone post a pic of the correct bulb holder for a 68 Coronet R/T.7639]

I have 2 different styles, and this longer one makes the light on one side glow brighter as it's closer to the lense. The one on the other side is much shorter. Which one is correct?

Thanks

I'm no expert on the newer cars but I'd be a little worried the longer one might melt the lens.

Lots of times, the uneven lighting is because of the reflector not being the same on each side. If you haven't done it already, I'd suggest to at least check out the reflectors. An easy fix if you need is to clean them and paint them with chrome paint. Then they will at least be even.

Same as Rich said, I'm not an expert on the later cars either, but below is what the 1968 Factory Parts Book says your 68 Coronet should be using for these sockets. If you're lucky, there will be a Chrysler part number stamped on both the short and long sockets and one of those part numbers will hopefully match the one below.

Factory Parts Book section: 8-55-57 (electrical section)
Part number: 2631 432
Description: socket, tail, stop and turn signal lamp
Number used per car: 2
Application: L (Dart)
Application: R (Belvedere)
Application: W (Coronet) except Charger, except station wagon

I hope this helps and Happy New Year to you as well!

Richard

P.S. I'd also agree with Rich that the shorter socket would give more room between the original style heat producing bulbs and the plastic tail lamp lens which is always helpful in trying to avoid heat checking the fragile tail lamp lenses. Wink

Hi, thanks for the answers. I'll check out what part numbers I have and the state of the reflectors as soon as I can.

Can anyone recommend a high brightness, low heat bulb replacement?

Just one LED tail lamp bulb option for your 1968 Coronet from a large company called Carid.

Website page link for these LED bulbs:

I picked up a set of led lites for my R/T at Walmart that work really well. I think they were about $15.00.
