Rear qtr window VERTICAL chrome trim seals..and Something I'm calling channel rubber..
#1
OK..

I can find the seals for the vertical chrome trim on my rear windows..Metro has them as do other places. But! The real problem is the channel rubber. I don't know what else to call it. The chrome trim clamps onto the edge of the glass..Inside that chrome trim is a rubber channel of some type. Mine is as hard as rock and I have had that trim piece pries itself off when winding my rear windows down. AT first I thought it was a matter of trying to bend the trim peice metal inwards a little so it fit tighter. But when I took a look I realized that would be a bad idea and anyway, my pieces are in really good condition.

Someone told me that the forward facing rubber seals slide into the trim and he thought that the BACKSIDE of the seal had that channel molded into it. That can't be how it works. I looked and it seems the front side and backside of the trim piece are totally separated by a wall of metal.

Has anyone had this problem? And apart from whacking some silicon into that channel..What is the correct fix?

Hmm? If I was in that situation I would try cleaning the channel and using windshield urethane. Fill the channel, press it onto the glass and then use mineral spirits to clean off the excess. I have seen qtr glass for sale and it did not have the trim on it. Never thought about the fact of having to take that off and how it was attached. I guess whatever you use doesn't have to be that strong as that chrome is decorative and only holds the weather strip. Urethane would definately be a strong bond!

Yep I can fix it that way. I already thought about it as I mentioned. But there is that way and then there is the correct way.

I suppose those trims were easily replaceable back in the day so no one ever had them on long enough to need to replace that rubber channel piece.

Hello Zoran,

The vertical trim mouldings (aka frame) located on the front edge of the quarter window glass on the 1966 and 1967 Dodge and Plymouth 2 door hardtop B-Body models were never sold by Chrysler as a separate piece, only as a complete assembly which included the following parts for the passenger, or drivers side of the car.

(01) Quarter window glass (different part numbers for clear, or tinted glass)
(02) Vertical trim moulding (aka frame)
(03) Weatherstrip located on the front edge of the vertical moulding trim (aka frame) that mates up to the backside of the window glass on the front door
(04) Metal attaching bracket.

This vertical trim moulding is also not interchangeable on the 1966 and 1967 Dodge and Plymouth B-Body 2 door hardtop models without modifications, as they attach to the car in slightly different ways from 1966 to 1967. The 1966 vertical mouldings have a rivet on the bottom end of the part that helps to hold it in place on the quarter window glass to help avoid the issue that you're having on your 1967 Coronet. The 1967 mouldings do not have these rivets, as they were redesigned by Chrysler to be a press fit to attach them to the quarter window glass. This also makes the 1967 mouldings slightly shorter on the bottom end than the 1966 mouldings as shown in the picture below. These 1966 and 1967 vertical mouldings are not being reproduced by anyone either, so you will need to make your originals work, or search for a used set somewhere.

For full part number listings for all of the related front windshield, rear window glass and side widow glass parts for the 1966 and 1967 Dodge and Plymouth B-Body models, please take a look at the comprehensive thread that I wrote awhile back here on the DCR regarding all of these parts and their applications.

Below is a picture of the 1966 vertical quarter glass moulding trim (aka frame) on the left side of the picture and the same 1967 vertical trim moulding (aka frame) on the right side of the picture.

Thanks Richard..Yep that's them.

Mine is as you said the shorter of the two in that photo, i.e. no rivet.

Mine are in superb condition metal wise. The clamping force of the rubber in the side that the glass goes into is the problem. It is rock hard, almost like bakelite now. I guess I will have to resort to an epoxy of some sort to keep them on.

They are repopped although the repos are not like the originals but they do work. At least was that way about 10 years ago when I bought mine.

To be honest, I don't remember seeing anyone offering the rubber seals that mount on the backside of these vertical quarter window mouldings, only the weatherstrips that fit on the front side of the moulding that mates up to the backside of the front door window glass as shown below from R/T Specialties and many other Mopar parts retailers sell these as well.

Mark, if you or anybody else knows of a company that sells the rubber seals that Zoran is asking about, please share that information with us so that I can add that company to my list of Mopar parts suppliers and can help others who need them in the future.

Hello again Zoran,

You might want to contact the company that I've listed below to verify if this product, or one like it will work for you. If not, they may sell what you need. This company is NOT the same as R/T Specialties that I listed in my post above, but a completely different company with a similar name that just also happens to be located in PA.
