tgranthamfd Wrote:Not sure if that is the right carb number, but it is the manual choke model. How hard are these carbs to work on or kit? Seems like all that is there is air and idle. Put a load on it from a stand still, and it dies and acts like it flooded. I have never had any experience with these carbs or the carters, they look alike to me.
This carb is a breeze to rebuild. As you said Youtube has some great videos. The Edelbrock 140_ series is a copy of the Carter AFB 9000 series that I run on my car. I purchased this rebuild kit on Ebay from PCFI from Long Island NY. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDELBROCK-CARBUR...2a3a47066d
The main reasons I bought this kit instead of a local parts house kit was: it came with an accelerator pump that has a steel shaft instead of nylon, the gasket on the pump is made of a material that will accept Ethanol and not rot if the car is stored for long periods, and the pump spring is high tension. As a bonus, the kit also comes with high flow 110 needles and seats.
P.S. If after rebuild; your car still hesitates a bit, move the accelerator pump adjustable arm to the next hole so it gets more of a squirt when you hit the pedal.

We did put my brothers 1406 carb on it, a few weeks ago. Starts good and runs good when warm, mileage seem to be really good, too. When it is cold out, and it smash on it a little to soon, it stumbles some and coughs a little. I'm guessing maybe timing or a bit more adjustments in the carb, now? I haven't tried to do a burn out to see if it still falls on its face?? Seems to be running really good though!
