Edelbrock 1405 carb
#1
Not sure if that is the right carb number, but it is the manual choke model. How hard are these carbs to work on or kit? Seems like all that is there is air and idle. Put a load on it from a stand still, and it dies and acts like it flooded. I have never had any experience with these carbs or the carters, they look alike to me.

Very easy to work on, check accelerator pump and inlet screen filter where fuel line goes in. And needle seat sometimes has a screen on it that plugs. Kits for these are not much

Kit is about $50 bucks.

This carb got put on the car and never got started until I bought it, probably sat 2 1/2 to 3 years with only whatever fuel they poured through it, trying to get her started. Those are good starting points for me, runs good down the road, just sometimes acts like it loads up and floods, or runs out, not sure.

Are any of the screens necessary?

I wouldn't think so if you are running a good inline filter, the new kits come with them in the bag of goodies. The inner one opposite the inlet usually has some crap stuck to it and you don't notice unless you pull the needle and seat out, or shine a light down in the inlet. I do put them on myself figuring it is not hurting anything being there.

I see you added this was a new never run carb but may have fuel in it, I would still remove the top see if there is dried up nasty scale in the bowels. It might looks like the moon surface in there after that time of sitting with fuel in it ....EEEEK!

That's what I was thinking, too. On the other hand, when I figured out what they had wrong and corrected it, it busted right off.

They had it 180 out, had ruined the battery, and burnt up the starter trying to start it. I bought the car, put in a new battery, replaced the starter, turned the distributor around 180, poured some gas down its throat, and busted it right off. All I have really done since then is clean it up some, replaced the point distributor with electronic, a few wheel cylinders, and a couple of brake lines, so far. Oh yeah, replaced the battery tray and hold down kit, too.
