  Salvage Yard Coronets
Posted by: 50Coronet - 01-09-13, 10:03 PM - Forum: The Early Years - Replies (10)

We went to an old bone yard a few weeks ago and saw a few old Coronets. Here are a few shots from that trip. I think the middle photo may have been a Meadowbrook but we took the moulding around the windshields for use on my Coronet.

  Aftermarket Shifter
Posted by: Zaq - 01-09-13, 06:40 PM - Forum: Tech Q&A - Replies (2)

I was considering putting an aftermarket floor shifter in my 66 Coronet and have a couple questions around that.

1. I'm pretty sure I saw on the registry before (but it's all just a distant memory now) where someone had posted pictures of their install of a Hurst Promatic 2 on their stock console. Does anyone have any pictures of their aftermarket shifters installed?

2. The two im looking at are the Hurst Promatic 2 as well as the Hurst V Matic 2. Any thoughts on Ratcheting Vs. Non (they can both be used either way) or T handle Vs. Ball? Even if it's just your crazy opinion, I'd still be curious to hear what people think (e.g. My buddy says ratcheting shifters should be in drag cars only). I kind of think the "Brass knucles" on the V Matic look pretty cool but I also like the simplicity of the Promatic. Like I said, let me know what you would think if you looked in a 66 and saw either of these.

3. I would like to get rid of the steering column shifter if I go with the floor if it is easy enough to take apart. Anyone have any experience with this? If it's a pain then I have an idea cooked up. I own a vinyl cutter and I could cover the clear plastic with black vinyl and cut some word out of the black vinyl so it says something when the backlight of the selecter turns on (Ramming Speed? 66 Coronet? Smile ).

Anyway, let me know what you all think. Thanks!

1966 AA-1 paint code help needed
Posted by: SmartPatrol - 01-09-13, 02:52 PM - Forum: Coronet Restoration/Paint Shop/Body Shop - Replies (45)

Hello there. I am restoring a 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible back to it's original color of AA-1 Silver Poly. My cars original color has 3 other paint jobs that are laid on top of it, and the original paint that does shine though no longer looks silver. It has a greenish tint to it.

My trouble comes here. The paint shop I decided to go with refuses to use certain paints because they end up looking like hell a few years down the road. They want ONLY to use a 2 stage Sherwin Williams water based paint and none of the cross references show up with this code. Diztler has 32398 as their number, and the Sherwin Williams code of 2400 doesn't work either as it won't cross over into the world of Water Based paints.

I've gotten this info from this link:
http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedis...98&rows=50

Any help would be great. Have any of you guys painted your cars the correct AA-1 color in water based? If so, please help.

Thanks in advance!

I bought the '49 in October of 2009. Back story in a condensed version is that my new wife (married Sept. '09) told me at one point that she wanted an old car. This is her wedding gift from me. It was supposed to be a surprise, and it was for a couple months until my sister had too much to drink one night and spilled the beans.

So here it was the day I went to look at it the first time. Of course it was raining...

It was rusted, glass was busted, it smelled like ass and there was dirt and grime everywhere. Basically love at first sight, right?
