Hi folks!

OK problem..

I purchased Top Cat whiskers as a set for my 67 Coronet 500 hardtop.

I have managed to get ONE of the outer pieces in on my left side door. But oh boy they are tight! My power window is struggling to go up without the car running. I hope that I got them in correctly. But regardless I am not sure about the inner ones on the BACK windows.

Seems like the ones I have from Top Cat are the same as my original ones, i.e. they must need to be tacked or bradded (is that a word) into place. Hmm ok..SO what tacks do I use? None came with the new whiskers. The old ones are never going to survive being pulled out and banged back in again. So I have stopped at this point and hoped that someone who has done this will chime in...

ON a related note..I am not overly impressed with the Top Cat pieces. None of them really match in length! Seems awfully hit and miss..I can obviously work out which piece goes where, there is not that much variance. But side to side front to back, not ONE piece matches it's counterpart on the other side of the car!

I have now contacted First Place Auto Parts, I heard that they were good and did better quality than Top Cat?

I only got the Top Cat ones because a large order of other weather seals etc. came from Mr Moparts, and these were the only ones they stocked.
I bought the TopCat ones and was not impressed. I did not use them, Please let us know if the First Place Auto pieces are better!
Yep I will keep you posted..

They got back to me quickly...95 US for the set..and wait for it..100 US for shipping to me in Finland. That's par for the course I am afraid for me over here. So I gotta say yes.. I will still pay more on top of that for import tax..Probably another 3rd of the total price including shipping cost!

ouch bend over huh?
Yeah I got charged 19 euros one time on a package of screws that cost me 19 shipped!
I have no idea about these parts for the 1968 and up cars, but for the 1966 and 1967 cars, these "cat whiskers", no matter who makes them, are a royal p.i.t.a. to install, especially on the rear quarter windows! I also have a set of the "Top Cat" whiskers waiting to be installed on my '66 500, because at the time that I purchased them a few years ago, they were touted as being the best available, but it looks as if this isn't true after all, so I will also be very interested in hearing how the First Place Auto whiskers work out for you. To make things even worse, I still haven't seen any reliable information on how those quarter window whiskers are supposed to be installed correctly and as you mentioned Tek, the manufactures don't give any help either. Rolleyes

As you also mentioned Tek, I've been told that you have to "tack" the inner quarter window whiskers in place, but anybody who has actually looked closely at doing this task usually ask themselves how in the hell am I supposed to get ANY kind of a tool in place to tack those suckers in place? Did the factory tack them in place before the inner sheet metal was installed? I just haven't figure out an easy way to install ANY of the front and rear cat whiskers, let alone the rear inner quarter window ones. Anyone

This is exactly as I suspected..

That tacked rear window INNER whisker is my biggest problem. Even with the glass out (something I am NOT doing) it would be near impossible to hammer the tacks home. I then though they had that complete panel OFF of the car when they did it, but I find that hard to believe.

Well, at least I am not the only one stumped by this..

Is it possible those tacks are actually pressed in with another type of tool?
The rear inner metal panel comes off with out removing glass. I'm scared of glass too Smile

^^^Thats right^^^
Yes that is true, but what type of fastener is supposed to be used to attach the inner cat whiskers to the removable panels that won't scratch the window glass? Also, how in the heck are you suppose to install the outer cat whiskers on the quarter windows? I know that the outer whiskers come with plastic tabs, but access is still extremely limited as is access for the whiskers for the inner and outer front doors. One of my least favorite parts to work with on my 66 Coronet.
