Wiring for adding power/heated seats?
#1
Hello all. I'm picking up a 67 Coronet next weekend and right off the bat I wanted to add comfortable power/heated seats. A friend has the heated/power seats out of a '14 challenger that should be perfect since they fold down and allow me to keep the car all Mopar.

Anyways, I have no idea if anyone makes wiring harnesses for adding power seats to older cars (see plenty of restomod/pro-touring cars with them). Do the seats get wired with relays off the battery or through the fuse box? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Was hoping to be able to get some input on this from someone with a little more knowledge than me. Anyone?

Is there another MOPAR board I should join for B-Bodies where I may be able to get more info on modifying a 67?

Thanks

Wow.. your post has only been up for 2 days... would you like some cheese to go along with that wine?

To answer your question, you first need to see the power requirements of the seats and heating elements. Then you need to see if the charging system in the 67 is up to snuff. Since the ones that came stock that year put out 30A, and the ones that come in modern cars are above 150A, I think you can see it probably won't work too well. So you're going to have to upgrade the charging system. And since you're dealing with 47yr old wiring designed to handle 30A, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what you are going to have to do next. Cheech and Chong made a movie about what will happen to your bulkhead connector and dashboard if you wire an alternator like that and put those seats in..

As for other websites for info? Google is your friend.

To be perfectly honest, I can't see an old Coronet being driven in cold enough weather to really need heated seats.

Andy have you got these out your way yet?

Where is the switch that turns on the seat heater? My silverado truck has heated seats and the switch is on the door.
Now, back to the 67. Where would you put the switch? Unless it mounted to the seat controls? Then your okay.

It could be a up in smoke deal unless the car got some electrical upgrades for things like this. And with that said? You probably would need the service of someone who understands 1967 electricial systems and there short comings.
As far as the electric seat? That would be a dedicated wire from the battery to the seat switch. If you tap into the under dash fuse system? Expect a smoke show!

Seeing that you're thinking about adding a completely custom modification to your car, how many other owners did you really believe would have already done a similar project? Most folks who want to add custom items like you're talking about are willing and able to do all of the research, as well as the fabrication work themselves to make it happen. Those who can't pay someone else to do the work for them.
