I have someone who brought me a TRW ps pump (looks like a federal) that has no pressure. I took it apart to figure out the bypass valve figuring it was stuck. This pump has two springs one long one that is not too strong, and one short one that is very stout. I was able to take apart the weaker spring and valve ass. but the stronger spring seems to be pushing against something that won't move. Part of me says it should move because the spring pushes against it and part of me knows what happens when I make something move that shouldn't. Anyone ever pull one of these things apart before.
And just FYI Richard, I'm at my garage and my service manuals are home. Please don't tell Helga I'm without my service manuals. I think I'll go home before I break something...

I got everything freed up, but now I'm thinking that the bypass valve (flow control valve) was installed backwards by the rebuilder. Not sure if I should put it back together the way I found it or the way I think it should go. It's a 50/50.
Any one have a diagram of this pump? It's not in the 67 manual. The 67 manual refers to something similar as a .96 or 1.2 pump, but it's not the same as mine.. It has both a bypass valve and a relief valve. Both were stuck, I had to hone the bypass valve bore out to make it move freely, and the relief was just plain frozen(that's the one I wasn't sure moved or not).
Oh well tomorrow's another day to break something else...
Also, it has the big return hose, not sure if that's important.

Thanks guys, the 67 manual has that same diagram in it, but mine is different. Same with the instructions Mike. Not sure exactly what I had, but I was able to reassemble it and gave it to the guy to try. We'll see what happens. I'll let you know what he says. I also gave him a spare in case it didn't work. He really wanted to attend a show this weekend. I really know that feeling.

Definitely a TRW. It looks very similar to a diagram that Richard posted, but the relief is located in a slightly different spot. Both valves were frozen. I had to hone the bore with a wheel cylinder hone and clean everything up. I gave it back to him with everything free, so I think it should work fine. I'll let you know the outcome when I hear back.
Thanks again.
