Modern Hemi swap 66 Cornet 500
#11
Well I hit somewhat of a bump in the road already. Plum floored creations no longer does the installation kit. No worries, there are plenty of other shops that sell the parts I'd need. It would have been nice to get the whole kit in one place though.

do they still sell the timing covers to run a distributor on those newer engines? than run a carb and make life easier on the wiring harness

I've got a buddy that owns a speed shop here that is willing to help me with all the wiring and programming. I could do a carb conversion but I really want to stick with the fuel injection because of the benefits. Plus I love a challenge! My dad owned and auto repair shop for over 20 years and sold it about a year ago, it would've been nice to have that shop right about now!

I definitely will! It's gonna be a slow process but it'll get done. Having 2 preteens and a wife in college, time and money will be my main issue lol! I think in a year's time this will be an obtainable goal. I will start with disassembly sometime in the fall and have everything prepped and ready for the new engine and hopefully a paint job this time next year. There will be plenty of pics and stories to come!

That was a good article. Plus he did it before there was much aftermarket support. My hats off to that guy!

I would like to know how you make out on finding an engine. I am currently searching for one and haven't found a low mileage one, under 60k, for under $2300+ shipping + core charge. That's more like about $3200. The pull-a-part places that I've checked don't have hemis. They are usually gone already.

I just got lucky and found 2 pick and pull places by me that have 1/2 ton trucks with the motors still in them. You just got to play detective and keep searching. I've seen them online for as low as $1200 + shipping.

Hello Tom,

If you're going to do this style swap, go with the 6.1 as it sounds as if the over all costs will be the same for either modern engine. Wink

For some unknown reason, nobody seems to take me seriously............
