Seeing that black one makes me want to restore mine, even though I know I shouldn't. That's the third black car I've now seen, so I guess that makes eight total 53 converts so far.

As I mentioned, 54's show up every now and then (more so than 53 convertibles. Heres an ad (with no pictures) that's on the local Craigslist by a seller in a town about 15 miles from me, that includes a 54 convertible.

According to the Standard Catalog of 1950s Chrysler, Dodge built 4,100 53 convertibles vs. 2,050 54's. 701 of the 54's were Indianapolis 500 pace car replicas.

Last time I checked the WPC roster there were about seven 54's listed and only one 53 (mine). That's out of over 10,000 cars total. The pace car association is the only reason I can think of why the 54's apparently have a higher survival rate.

My 53 is body number 49 of the 4,100, and was built Oct 1 1952. It might be the oldest surviving 53, which if so, would also make it the oldest surviving Dodge hemi convertible (since 53 was the first year Dodge offered a hemi). For what it's worth. Smile

This looks like my neighbors car when I lived in Littleton Colo. I am sure they made a few like this but it brings back memeories of it. They kept it up but had to park on street all the time, but that was no big thing back then to see.3510&d=1390792397[/IMG]
