904 transmission pan
#1
Here we go again. About 6 months ago I bought a deeper trans pan for the Coronet. 904 pan with drain plug. Cannot get it to seal. Different gaskets. tried the silicone thing. nothing will seal this thing. I'm on try no.6 Straight edge pan it's good. Anyone else have this problem? if you did how did you fix it

Two things, is the pan pressed steel? If it is, then the flange warps. What I do is actually bend the area around each bolt hole away from the transmission. I use two hammers a ball pen and a big brass. Lay the pan edge on a piece of wood pan facing up on your bench. Mock up other wood to hold it, I use my gut. Take the ball peen ball down and hold it ball on one of the holes and hit the ball peen with a BRASS hammer, don't use another hammer because you could get hurt. What you are trying to do is get the area under each bolt head to be bent slightly away from the pan. This allows you to tighten on the gasket between bolts before you crush the gasket. Also Mopar makes a great hard plastic/rubber reusable gasket. Also are you sure the pan gasket is leaking? Other leaks above will drip down over and around the gasket mating area making is look like it's leaking.

It's leaking you can watch it between the gasket and pan and transmission.

Same spot every time?

Always side to side. Either left or right. Doesn't leak in front or back. If I had a drill press and bandsaw I'd make my own Rails

Go to your local dealer and get a pan and gasket for later model Dodge truck with a 42RE transmission. It will be a deep 904 pan with a reuseable gasket and it will not leak. Torque the pan bolts to 105 INCH POUNDS. Only drawback is no drain plug.

Is the pan you have cast aluminium? If so you'll love the 42RE gasket. If it's steel, make sure the dimples match the gasket or it will leak. This is why I usually recommend getting the pan and gasket together.
