I was wondering how hard it is to replace the front drum wheel studs on a 67 Coronet.
The guy I bought the car from put a spacer behind the wheel.
Not too happy about the lack of threads left to tighten the wheel.
I removed the spacer. The wheel weights rub at upper control arm.
I could get the wheels static balanced too..
Has anyone gone thru this?
I'm running a 14 inch magnum 500s

To take apart the assembly, something has to be sacrificed. The splines if the studs are peened or swaged, or for lack of a better description, smushed (spell check didn't like that!) over the drum. So you have to cut off the smushed part. When our cars were new, you could get a tool for this. It slid over the threads and cut the smushed splines, but you also had to cut through and into the drum. That is why you will most likely have to change the drum and studs. If you want to do it, you can use a 1/2 hole saw without the pilot drill. Works great. Might be easier and cheaper to get the wheels rebalanced. Do the make any stick on wheel weights that will clear the UCA? maybe sticking them to the inside of the rim on the inboard side.

Yeah.
I'm leaning on the re balance.. Would hate to tear up the front drums when balancing will fix it.
I am now wondering if these wheels are the correct ones for the car?
It's always something?

I'd lay odds the backspacing is off on the wheels, and they used the spacer as a way to get around it. You should be able to run 14" Magnums or road wheels on the front without any clearance issues at all (I ran 14" road wheels for a few years).
Someone else look at this pic.. is the control arm on the wrong side?

The UCA is correct, the side with more meat goes forward and is for the rebound bumper.

I wouldn't doubt that it is on the wrong side.
The guy I bought the car from was a meathead when it came to the repairs he or his
buddy's made to the car..

Thanks Rich... the angle of the pic makes it look like the UCA is angled the wrong way.. wasn't at home to compare to mine.

I clicked on your pic and it went to another pic.... so I kept going till I saw a pic of the car with it's wheels on sitting out side. Very nice looking car.... Any way the magnum 500's on the car look like they from a early 70's Mustang and they have a crazy off set to them causing the rubbing, also the car looks like it sits very low. If the car sits to low it will cause the upper control arm to point in an upward angle which will allow the most outer edge of the UCA to point directly at the edge of the wheel. Just a thought.
