66 headlight assembly
#1
After 5 years of not working on my Coronet, I've decided to get back at it. One of my first jobs will be to complete the headlights. When I bought my car, it had a 67 Grille assembly in it. There was a burlap sack in the trunk full of 66 grill parts. That's what tipped me into investigating what year car I had purchased. I thought I purchased a 67. Long story short when I bought the car the 66 headlight assembly was not installed. It was just a bunch of parts and pieces. I do not even know if I have everything. Can someone post and exploded view or something akin to it so that I can see how this gets installed?

Here's a diagram from the 1966 Chrysler Factory Parts Book that may help.

Here's a picture of my 1966 Coronet 500 back in 1990 while I was doing the paint and body work that shows the headlight buckets in place on the front fenders.

And a couple of pictures of my car with the front grille assembly in place.

You might get into a jam when it comes to the headlight buckets on the fenders. I believe they are welded in on '66 cars. You would have to find donor fenders and cut them out or swap the whole fender. Maybe the front end was rebuilt using parts from a '67 car? Someone correct me of I'm wrong about this?

You are correct, but the 67 grill will fit on 66 fenders, there is enough room for the 66 headlight buckets behind the 67 grill. I've done it before.

That is correct 67RTBlue.

The front clips (fenders, front hood trim, grille assembly and bumper) are very similar on the 1966 and 1967 Coronets, but not exactly the same which means that none of the individual parts are directly interchangeable between the two model years without modifications being done. While you can swap any complete 1966 or 1967 Coronet front clip assembly onto any 1966 or 1967 Coronet model, you can not interchange individual parts from one model year to the other.

You can also swap any complete 1966 or 1967 Dodge Charger front clip onto any 1966 or 1967 Coronet and vice versa, but once again, you can not interchange individual parts from a Coronet to a Charger and vice versa.

Below is an example of a 1966 Coronet with a complete 1966 Charger front clip installed.

^ I always thought that was one bad A look! love that grill assembly.

Also, look here (http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109). They have the service manual for the 66. I have downloaded the 67 and it is great. I am sure there are instructions, diagrams, and images of the grill assembly. Should help some.

Funny stuff...I just pulled a Charger grill and headlight assembly off the shelf to start prepping for install on my '66. Thank you so much for posting the blown up pic from the parts manual.....GREAT TIMING!
