I'm getting tired of painting the 440 valve covers every year because of the heat from the exhaust manifold peeling off the paint
I'm using high temp. paint but they still peel
This year I have them at a pro. paint shop
Does anyone know of a product that I could put between the cover and manifold that can easily be removed at a car show?

maybe a piece of header wrap? I might have a piece in my large collection of junk, you are welcome to it if you want it.

Fran, try POR 15 engine paint. The stuff is great. It's a project to apply, but I have two engines painted over 10 years ago and are still great.
Disclaimer: LOL, 67 used chrome valve covers, but everything else it perfect.

65rbdodge, how wide is the header tape and can it just be put between the manifold and covers without adhering?
So it can easily be removed for a show
Rich, I have the covers at a pro shop right now. But I will keep your recommendation in mind if this doesn't turn out

I`ll search for it in my mess and let you know. its not adhesive, it more like an asbestos type cloth about the size of a seat belt. it wrapped around the headers and was held in place with metal zip ties.

The only problem with those wraps is it won't free stand, you have to wrap it around the manifold to make it work. And since the manifold won't shed the heat, it may cause it to crack.
The only other thing you can try is to take a piece of sheet metal and form it so it provides a barrier between the manifold and the valve cover. You could use the outer valve cover bolts to hold it down, or try to attach it to the exhaust manifold somehow. When you get to the show, remove them. (not easy because they will be hot).
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.

The car runs great. I don't believe it's the timing but I will check it when I get my valve covers back
I pulled the thermoset to day. It is a 160 and it opened fine
The service manual recommends 190 to 195, but wouldn't that create more heat?

Another alternative is powder coating. I failed in the color match but 8 years later I can still clean them with mild soap and they look like new.
