1965 Dodge Coronet 440
#1
Hello,

Newbie here. Just picked up my '65 Coronet. I'll go ahead and ask first of what will be a lot of questions - the speedometer needle bounces all over the place. Kind of funny and settles down once warmed up. Anyone seen this? Know a fix? Thank you!

Welcome to the site! Needs a good cleaning and lube. Pull the cable at both ends, slide out the drive cable and spray carb cleaner through it. Spray white lithium down the sheath. Clean and lube the drive cable. Works great and eliminates some of those weird squeaking noises you get in the cold.

Welcome to the DCR and I will also say congrats on finding such a clean and good looking '65 Coronet 440 sedan!

My recommendation would be to make purchasing a copy of the Factory Service Manual for your Coronet your next task. These manuals are filled with extremely helpful information regarding how to work on most all areas of your car and includes lots of diagrams to show how various parts of the car are assembled and disassembled. These manuals are offered in both a printed book format as well as in a CD format, but the CD format is less expensive and it allows you to print the exact pages from the manual that you need for whatever you're working on and take those pages out with you to the car while you're working on it.

Below is an Ebay link for a 1965 Factory Service Manual in a CD format from a company called Faxon Automotive Literature that is licensed by Chrysler to reproduce all of the Chrysler Corporation Factory Service Manuals and they deliver great customer service as well, at least they have every time that I've dealt with them over the years.

Enjoy your Coronet and we love pictures, so please feel free to show us more of your new ride!
