Door Jamb Switches
#1
Hey all....

my 69 Coronet is well under way.....I have an issue with the door jamb switches....

the drivers side works fine, the pax side turns the dome light on regardless of whether the door is closed or not....I will have to check the switch for proper function.....

my problem is that each door has a hole in the jamb area and when the doors are closed, the jamb switches enter the door, preventing the door from compressing the switch...
I remember one of the doors had a small metal piece which was taped onto the door jamb....but what actually goes there to allow the switches to properly function?

any thoughts?

thanks,

Mark

I'm not familiar with the 69s, but most should not use anything other than the door frame. Can you block up the hole with nut, bolt, and 2 washers?

Wow- hole in door where the contact point is- never seen a switch wear through metal. sounds like maybe someone drilled out the hole- as said- bolt and washers or weld in a new piece.

Guys,

thanks for replies....now another issue....

when I have the battery hooked up, the dome lights are on continuously....regardless of door jamb switch position.....
the rheostat on the panel lights is not full up....so these lights should react to the door jamb switches...

both of my switches have 2 leads on them....both yellow....the drivers side was working at one time, now it's not....

any thoughts?

thanks,

Mark

All those do is ground the light to turn it on. You need to disconnect wires until the dome light goes off, then figure out what is wrong with that circuit.

Those yellow wire do separate at plugs.

new switches are not too high at classic industries, but in my opinion get a few small items that you need to make the shipping cost worth it.

Thx for replies....

I rechecked all the connections....everything looks fine....

I had driver's side door closed, and hooked everything up....I depressed the pax side switch and heard a clicking sound that appeared to be coming from the buzzer relay....but the dome light did not go out...

is it true that the wrong bulb will cause the light to stay on all the time?

thanks,

Mark

Hey everyone....great news....the dummy who put the car together used the wrong lightbulb in the dome light....I put a 1004 in there, and presto....everything is now working, and my battery, which had a draw on it while static, is no longer doing so...

thanks again to everyone who helped me out....

If its like the 67? There is a constant 12 volt wire to the dome light. As well as a ground for that light.
That ground makes the circut compleat.
If the socket or any part of the dome light touches or is grounded the light will come on.

My 67 had this problem. The socket was going to ground through fixture. Thus it had power all the time and grounded all the time.
That's my 2 cents...
Hope you find it..

Oh. And yes the wrong bulb will do the same thing.
