'nuther question on the brakes
#1
Not to be a pain in the butt, but I've got another question. After putting everything together, it all looked correct but the star wheel lengthened the adjuster when turned down (toward the bottom of the backing plate). That seems like the wrong way. Shouldn't the wheel move toward the top when the lever pulls on it and lengthen the adjuster? I bought a new adjuster kit since I needed the cable and guide. I used the new adjuster, and it is not marked L or R, but the box was marked RH (passenger side). The one that was originally on that side moves (lengthens) correctly(also not marked). In other words, when facing the star wheel (as in the picture), when I turn the wheel toward the top, it lengthens the adjuster. Am I right that the wheel should move toward the top to lengthen the adjuster?56225623

If you take the loose end(little end) of the adjuster off, you will see a L or R on end it slides onto(teeth and threaded end). The one you have on there now is for manual adjust. Hope that narrows your ? down a bit

Thanks again Andy...you've been a big help. Honestly, I felt a little stupid asking these questions but it's been awhile since I did any drum brakes. Who knows, though, maybe someone else will learn something also. You were right about the adjusters. I saw the difference between the two and the one for self adjusters did have the 'R' stamped on it. I looked at it but didn't realize that the stamping was there.562556265627

I also mentioned that 'L' bracket that I used as an anchor point so I took a picture. That little bracket made it a whole lot easier to put that spring on.56285629

Tidy bracket you made and I like your idea of marking the slot on hold down pin retainers, sometimes it seems forever trying to lined it up. Gotta stick you Tongue out just right Smile.

I think your Tongue goes out after the spring goes in your eye!

I like your ingenuity too.
