I joined this forum a while ago but forgot about it until the revamp. This is my first official post!

I inherited my '66 Coronet 500 from my grandfather. He bought it new in Frankenmuth MI, drove it till 1990 and parked it in a hay barn after the timing cover sprang a coolant leak. He promised the car to me when I was 13 under the condition that I restore it. It sat in the barn until 2018 when I finally brought it home and got to work. I knew next to nothing mechanical when I started the project, but learned enough from working on it that I was able to get a job as a mechanic during COVID when my regular music job was on hiatus. I'm 36 and have five kids, so time under the hood is...not frequent. But, it runs and gets the groceries! My current goal is to get it to stop overheating when driving above 55mph so that I can get it to Cruisin' the Coast 2024.

Nice car! You don’t see to may coronets with 318 polys. A new radiator would most likely solve your overheating problems.

Put in a new radiator in 2021. Tested the thermostat and it's opening at 165. Changed a freeze plug and stirred up some junk in the coolant passages that ended up clogging the new radiator. I did a flush last week but may have to do another.

This engine does seem to rev really high at 60mph. I feel it shift into 3rd gear around 30mph. I wish it had a tach gauge.

Sounds like the kickdown linkage may need adjusting.  Unless your dad changed it out, the only rears it came from factory with are 2.94 and 3.23.  If it's got the trailer towing package it's got 3.23.
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.
