OK Mike, but I think that you will agree with me that when the "search engine trolls" come visiting it's usually very easy to see in most cases due to the large spike in the "guest" numbers and can we agree than when we both visit the DCR website day or night there are rarely more than two or three "members"?
Do you think allowing visitors more access to the DCR would help? Maybe allowing them access to everything with the exception of replying to existing threads or starting a new thread?
Might it also be beneficial to start a thread asking members to explain what they do and don't like about the Facebook version of the DCR and what they do and don't like about the website version? Maybe that would help narrow down what really needs to be addressed on both venues over and above the picture posting issues here.

Here's the best way to judge how the board is being utilized is how many people have viewed the thread vs how many have responded. Take my Mopar's You've Owned thread. Out of 7 people that viewed it, only 3 replied. A simple, non-technical question designed solely to generte interest and get some activity going. Yet only half the people that viewed it did not respond. Why? I dunno, definetely not intimidation factor as some of those have some pretty solid rides. I can't force people to post, only we as a collective group can do that.
As for allowing access to pictures to non-members, that would actually decrease the number of people that sign up, as they'd see what they want to see, whether it's a rare car or a EFI setup, etc, once they see it, they are gone, only to occasionally return to see if any updates. If they sign up, they may ask a question, and knowing this crew they'll be fighting over who answers. It's a common practice in the forum world, hell, some boards charge you for that ability. Another example, Scruffy's. People wanted it, we gave it. Post your porn, post your crude jokes.. very few rules (no kiddie porn, no politics/religion/bashing users). In the beginning it was that way, but quickly declined into tech support and other things. Want to know when last subscription expired? November 2018. Yes I know some posts occurred in 2020 but that was to right a wrong we did.
As for starting a thread about good/bad about FaceCrook's Coronet site (one of many I understand) is I'm not a member, So I can't compare the 2 nor try to imitate them. I left 10-15yrs ago when I got tired of the political and religious bullshit being rammed down my throat by "friends". I do know people like the "one stop shopping aspect of it, one second they are looking at their new grandkid, next they are watching some guy install a locker in his Dana.
I've been on the internet since 1993, even before AOHell had internet access. I've seen chat go from text based Internet Relay Chat (now run by hackers and kiddie porn types) to graphical chatting via AOHell, to very limited video chatting with Skype (which worked maybe 1/4 the time) to Forums, to MySpace to now FaceCrook/Twitter/instragram (insert your favorite one here). Nowadays you got schools being taught with ZOOM, and the unthinkable, people working from home. I've seen people leave IRC for ICU to ICUII (A picture based chat program) to ISPQ (another one) to WhatsApp (a full motion video program). The internet changes, and we gotta accept us diehards are keeping the board going.
