727 Needs seals
#1
I have been working like crazy on my 67 over the winter months here in Minnesota. (Just ordered a new radiator)
Anyway im all done with 90% of my planned repairs.

I am blessed with a big block 727 that will hold fluid for about 24 hours. After that? Its a "crime scene" under my car.

Its been on jack stands all winter and I am going to drop the 727. Should I put seals in it? or send it out for a rebuild?

I worked at a tranny shop years ago when I was young and strong. Now im old and weak but also smarter.

Any advise?

If it works good and doesn't have a million miles on it just fix the leaks. Usually front pump (pull trans)or shift shaft seals(fix in car). Our wagon front pump seal went south way south and started dumping but the trans still worked so good, I pulled it and replaced the seal and put it back in and no more crime scene.

X2 on the leak repairs. I'd also change all the seals on the outside before I dropped the trans. Don't overlook the TWO shift shaft seals and the speedo gear seal. Also Mopar makes a great pan gasket that is hard plastic/rubber. Works great and reusable.

If you do not have to remove tranny use this tool and you wont have to remove valve body. Just clean area real good before pulling seal.

If it works good just seal it up - what is happening is that the converter is draining and filling up the trans. Then it leaks out the selector shaft seal, very common on 727's.

Thanks for the advise.
The transmission has 63,000 on it. I did a filter change last fall thinking it would cure this leak and found no trash or metal goodies in the pan. It shifts fine.

All my friends have those "Driveways" .. You know what I mean.... Showing up at their house with a "leaker" would not be cool!

I plan on doing the front seal, bushing, gasket and o ring. Dip stick, shift sector shaft, tail shaft seal. What else is there?

Sounds like you've got it covered.
