New-B with a great condition '72 in Seattle area
#1
Just signed up here and wanted to say hi and show the car. I'm in the Seattle area and would love to meet others from around here with Coronets or similar B-body cars.

It runs and drive amazingly well and I have only found one tiny ding on the right front fender. All the chrome is in great shape and there is virtually no rust I've found besides a couple teeny spots on the surface. I am going to refresh the front end parts as well as the steering gear and refresh a lot of the electrical including bypassing the ammeter and running a direct line from the battery to the starter and alternator. I think after that I will put in new carpet, add headers, glasspacks, rebuild the carburetor, attempt to fix any oil leaks and then paint. I'm thinking dark green with a black stripe down the middle but who knows I will probably change my mind multiple times before then. I also haven't decided if I want to keep the original steel wheels with the original caps. I think I want a little more aggressive of a look from the wheels than the stock look.

It will most likely sleep under a cover for most of the winter. Here are some picks I took on a rainy day.

Congratulations on a very nice '72 ! Car looks to have been a gold color originally, am I right? And the engine has been rebuilt or treated somehow ? 318 ? Welcome.

It appears gold was it's original color. Unfortunately the guy I bought the car from had only had it for a year and had very little info on it's history.(he knew very little about the car at all which is how I got such a good deal on it) It is a 318 and seems to have been somewhat rebuilt recently. At least it runs like it's freshly rebuilt. From what I can tell it has a new alternator, starter and water pump as well as all new hoses and vacuum lines and it has obviously been painted turquoise. The radiator also looks fairly new. I've been doing some research on doing a very minor bolt on build up of the 318. I'm thinking intake, carb and cam. Is this a good idea? Here is what I've found.

Carb - is 600 CFM too much for this mostly stock engine? I'm looking for quick throttle response.

an intake cam and carb will wake up the 318. a 600cfm carb will be fine. I put a .441 lift cam in a 318 a long time ago(20 years ago) and used the stock valve springs. I soon discovered it was a bad idea. comp cams #901 springs are cheap and work great.

I'm currently looking at a .420 lift Edelbrock #2177. Luckily the info on their website tells about using their valve springs. In fact you void your warranty if you don't.
