66 Big Block Shorty Headers?
#21
4264door Wrote:I am a huge supporter of cast iron exhaust manifolds and prefer them for a street car. Properly installed with attention paid to cast iron flashing in accessible areas and a flat mating surface at the head makes for an effiecient and trouble free street exhaust without the headaches of headers. I have had many sets of headers that ran on the street and after a few years they rust and get dented for whatever reason making it necessary for new headers to be installed. BIG PITA! For a street/strip car then yes, GOOD QUALITY headers are worth their weight in gold. Good luck with your project!
Even bolting them up to aluminum heads?

Well. I came across a very great article on this subject [Here]. Shows dyno results, etc. I think after reading this, the clear winner for me is the Hedman Coated Shorty's.

Thanks for the link! I started to second guess my choice once everyone on here said they used manifolds... Now I am back to being comfortable with the headers I bought.

If only I could get that F!*#%^ busted stud out of there now.

Extremely happy with how these Hedman Shorty's fit. Now, I'm hoping that I don't lose too much power from the full length ones. Either way, I'm happy. Now I can have my car sit low, the way I like it to, without ground clearance issues. High five to Hedman! Big Grin

Good thread ! You guys talked me into keeping my stock exhaust manifolds on my 67. Thats one PIA gone before it started . I'll just run some really nice pipes and some high performance mufflers . Thanks . BooBoo

From a Nov 1966 Hot Rod ad for Hedman

If you want to practice welding, hammering, lifting, pulling, chiseling or your crowbar work,

DON'T BUY HEDMAN HEDDERS.

But if you'd rather just turn a wrench...

DO IT THIS WAY

The "Easy Hedman Way"
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.
