The 1965 Factory Parts Book shows that the "Coronet" and "500" emblems are mounted on the rear area of the front fenders, not on the front of the front fenders like they are on the 1966 Coronet 500 models.

Item #1 on the diagrams below copied from the MyMopar web site represents the "500" emblems and attaching hardware on the rear of the front fenders.
Item #2 on the diagrams below copied from the MyMopar web site represents the "Coronet" emblems and the attaching hardware on the rear of the front fenders.

Richard

P.S. Kevin and Mike, I will delete the two diagrams copied from MyMopar below if needed.

Hello Todd,

Thank you my friend. I've just spent many years reading and understanding the Factory Parts Books and the Factory Service Manuals where all of this kind of information is located, so I know where to find answers to peoples questions if I don't already have the information memorized. Wink

ckmopar500, I have a 65 Coronet 440 and the emblems for the 'Coronet' and the '440' are on the front of the fender. Is there anyway for you to verify that the fenders are original to the car? I'm not exactly sure why your 500 would have that placement. Maybe its is a later model (towards the end of production) they ran out of fenders for the 500 and used the 440. I have heard that in some cases, this was done.

Anywho, if you find the answer please let us know! [URL="http://www.dodgecoronet.com/forum/member.php?707-ckmopar500"]

And for comparison, the same pages from the MyMopar web site from the 1965 Factory Parts Book for the 1965 Coronet (W-H) 440 2 door hardtop models.

Item (Ref #) #2 represents the "440" numeral emblems mounted on the front end of the front fenders
Item (Ref #) #3 represents the "Coronet" name plate emblems mounted on the front end of the front fenders.

Im pretty sure the fenders have never been off the car has been painted but they didnt paint inside the jams or fenders and only has 120000 miles the previous owner(s) seemed to have taken exceptional care of the car so Jenn maybe your explanation is correct Thanks for the info I will do a little more research into the vin
