I recently bought this car that is in pretty nice shape. The headlights don't work. The park lights do. I've investigated some and know the headlights has a circuit breaker. I know where that is at. How do I know if that device still works? (it is in a terrible place) Note: The battery was hooked up wrong when I got it (negative post was the ground) I staightened that out. Any ideas are welcomed.
Welcome NHRAnut, nice Coronet. First, that's a very nice looking Coronet you have.
On the trouble with the head lights, you should start by getting a wiring diagram. That will help. The convenient part is that your car has a very simple electrical system. It really shouldn't be that hard to meter the circuit and find the problem. If you don't know how, get a friend to help with the basics.
Good luck.

Make sure to test the switch also. The switches also have circuits as far as I know. If you need fuses or switches let me know. I have a full bulb and fuse kit for that car and its all new. I have a 50 Coronet but its converted to 12 Volt and these extra parts came with the car. Good luck and great looking car>

Thanks. Does anyone have a wire diagram? I have a digital meter. How do I use it to know/find a short if there is one? Put it to ohms setting? What number/s show short? If it zeros out it's ok? Do those old circuit breakers function well? Fail often?
I also like your Coronet very much and welcome to the DCR!
As far as finding information for your car, you might want to contact a company called Faxon Automotive Literature in California that is licensed by Chrysler to reproduce all of the original Factory Parts Books and Factory Service Manuals. I've provided a link below to their web site that shows what they offer for your 49 Coronet and you can find all of their contact information on their web site if you have any questions. I've dealt with them for many years now and have always been very happy with their products an customer service.
