Bastardized Hemi car

thebankerstoy Wrote:With my modified Coronet, I'm usually the LAST person to speak out against incorrect modifications, as I believe that anybody should build their car the way they want to, but when it comes to Hemi cars, you just don't do those kinds of modifications. Instead, go find a model that they made a lot of and have fun with it like I did with my Coronet. Not to many folks out there losing sleep over me painting my lowly original Green car 1977 Corvette Yellow, or are worried about me swapping from it's 361 and automatic to a 1969 440 and a full manual automatic.

As much as I'd love to believe that ALL cars are created equal, that simply isn't true. Even if I could afford to purchase a real Hemi car, I wouldn't want that responsibility.

When these cars were sold new, the first things done to them was to modify them and have fun with them.. After all, isn't that what the Direct Connection catalog was for? To modify your car the way you wanted it. And back then, you didn't modify a base model or a 440 trim line, it was the R/T's, Super Bee's and yes, even a Hemi car may have been modified.

Nowadays you do it to one, and you get friggin persecuted for it..
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.

And hence my statement:

Comparing the days when these cars were new and what they are today is difficult at best, because as limited numbers of any collectible age they usually become more valuable than similar items that had larger releases due to supply and demand and it's the same with Hemi cars of any model, or model year. If I were a betting man, I sure wouldn't bet against the outcome of what would happen at a Barrett-Jackson auction on which car would bring a much higher selling price, an equally nice stock 1966 361 powered Coronet, or a stock 1966 Hemi powered Coronet? You could also substitute any two similar models from any model year that the Hemi was offered as an example and you'd get the same results. The Hemi powered cars cost you more when they were new and they will cost you a lot more these days.

I couldn't agree with you more Mike and that's why I feel sorry for the person that buys this modified 66 Hemi Coronet at that price. That person will be ridiculed by every "expert" on the planet until they are either forced into putting everything back to factory stock, or gives up taking all of the crap and sells it at a loss.

Three things that you can count on in life is death, taxes and the fact that a Hemi car in stock condition will always be more valuable than the same car that is modified. I'm going out in my garage and giving my old worthless heap a hug and tell it I love the fact it's so damn worthless!

I agree with you, I did have to step back when I saw the trunk!
Objects quickly DISAPPEAR in the rearview mirror and PLEASE stay seated until the ride comes to a complete stop!!

I have witnessed a different outlook of today than that of 2003 when back then there appeared less importance to keeping a car as per the factory.
