Has anyone rebuilt a power steering box? It looks kinda complicated in the service manual. Mine has a lot of play and I tried adjusting the screw on top and it didn't help. That's when I noticed the input shaft is walking in and out an excessive amount as it turns back and forth. The input shaft seal is leaking a crazy amount when the front end is jacked way up. Just to be clear the play is in the steering box, the ball joints, torsion bars, lower control arm bushings, inner and outer tie rod ends were replaced in the past few years and the idler arm and pitman arm are brand new.

I have done a few and not too hard but I have all the factory tools which helps allot.
Now might be time to consider a upgrade to a firm feel.

I rebuild one on a 69 imperial I had, that was probably 20 years ago. I don’t remember it being hard to do

From what you guys say I believe I cound do it if it was just seals and bearings but I don't see where the input end play can be adjusted. Rock Auto has Cardone rebuilding service listed for $107. I contacted Cardone and they said 3 to 5 business days with an 80% probability of success with the information I gave them. I think if I go that route I'll still have time to get a Firm Feel box in before Carlisle if Cardone can't fix it, even though it's over my budget.

Firm Feel rebuilt the p/s box on my Coronet. I opted for the Stage III - love it. They also rebuilt the man box on my Dart. They're more than $107, but all they do is Mopars.

Seriously considered the Firm Feel but it just wasn't in the budget. It's in Texas right now being rebuilt by Cardone. If they can't tighten it up then I'll just be the captain of the SS Coronet until I can save up for the Firm Feel. At least I won't have the oil film all over the back of my car.
