Brake release

Well guys, I'm not sure if I'm getting lazy or smarter.
But over the years, just bulling my way into a project didn't all ways work out as planed
So here I am. I had to have the master brake cylinder rebuilt. So after I installed the rebuild I thought I should check the emergency brake, just in case I didn't get all the air out during the bench purge and I would need this to stop the car. In hind sight, I should have just bled the lines, but no, I was going to put the rebuild to the test. The emergency brake went down fine, the light came on and all looked good. Except when I pulled on the release handle it was evident it was not connected to the brake release. I'm not a large guy and I do need reading glasses but do you think I could get in position to look up that 1/2" of clearance between the brake bracket and the heater out let to see what needed too be corrected. No way. I looked in my service manual but it was unclear to me how to reattach it. My next move is to remove the seat and dismantle the heater, if I have to. Here's where you intelligent guys come in. Is there an easy fix to this with out taking my car apart?
I can see the rod that is attached to the pull lever protruding out of a slot on the brake assembly but it doesn't do any thing.
Any one with any info. I'd greatly appreciate it
May be I should step back about 40 years and start chasing woman again instead of dealing with the classic cars. I certainly couldn't get in trouble doing that!!!!??????????????????

Boy that's a tuff one the factory parts book shows a release rod clip # 1137669 code 4-25-15 is more than likely what you will need.

Take the wifes mirror when she's not looking and use that to see whats going on for sure.

Another trick to get around hard to see spots (and old neck muscles...) is to use a small digital camera. Just point it in the general direction & shoot a few pics. Put them up on your computer & you should be able to see what you couldn't get to with your eyes. I've used this a couple of times when working on my instrument cluster & it works great.
