Still trying to come up with correct sizing for the tires I need . I've got the new Magnum 500's - they're 15" X 7" with a 4.25" backspace. Currently, I'm running 14" Road Wheels with 235/60 tires all around & no clearance issues. I've checked a few conversion charts & it appears that the 235/60/15's will give me almost the same diameter as the original 735/14 bias plies so I'll have a reasonably accurate speedo - the 235/60/14's on the car now, read about 5 mph fast. My question is - has anyone used 235/60/15's on a '66 Coronet & are there any clearance issues? The car is a 318/727 with stock drum brakes. The only thing I haven' tried is pulling one of the road wheels to compare rim width & back space with the 15' Magnums.
Thanks guys. I've been to a few tire stores373737383739 and they all have theories and charts but no one can give a definitive answer and, of course, they don't carry any of these sizes in stock so I can even see and compare them. Should have come to the forum first! Next step - find a good deal.... No hurry, though, the way Winter's going it'll be at least a month before I open the shop door!
this is what I do when I need tire specs, you can go to tirerack.com, put in you tire size, when the tires come up click on specs. this will give you all the measurements you need as far as tires for any given size.
I've been running P235-60R-15 B.F.G. Radial T/A tires on my 1966 Coronet 500 with various wheels since I bought the car back in 1989 and I've had absolutely no tire clearance issues front, or back over the years with either my 15x7 American Racing Champ 500 wheels, or my 15x7 Weld Draglight wheels with that sized tire.

Before restoration back in 1989 with 15x7 American Racing Champ 500 wheels and P235-60R-15 B.F.G. Radial T/A tires on all four corners.
After restoration in 1991 with the same American Racing Champ 500 15x7 wheels and P235-60R-15 B.F.G. Radial T/A tires on all four corners.
With 15x7 Weld Draglight wheels and B.F.G. P235-60R-15 Radial T/A tires on the back currently.
For some unknown reason, nobody seems to take me seriously............
Tires are ordered! Thanks to you fellas I went ahead and pulled the trigger - 235/60/15 T/A radials. Surprised how limited the selection is for this size tire - three different stores and the only choice was BFG. I'll have them mounted this week!!
