Question on 1967 Coronet 500 2 Door Hardtops

I've been doing some research and writing some articles on the 1966 and 1967 Coronets and while researching the hood lip edge moulding trim on both model years, I came across some information in my 1967 Factory Parts Book that I'm not sure is correct, so I'm wondering if any of you folks who own 1967 Coronet 500 2 door hardtops could verify what I've found.

Below is all of the information on the hood lip edge moulding trim for all of the 1967 Coronets. As you can see, all of them except the W-E base model Coronet station wagons and the Coronet 500 2 door hardtops use the same moulding trim. I knew that the W-E base Coronet station wagons used a different two piece hood moulding trim, but why would Chrysler have used the same hood moulding trim as they used on the 1966 and 1967 Chargers only on the 67 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop models? Is this an error as I believe it is, or is this information correct? Metro makes no mention that their 1967 Coronet hood lip edge moulding won't work on Coronet 500 2 door hardtop models either.

The hood trim on a 67 is the same for a Deluxe, 440 or 500 model.

Also, I believe the hood trim on a 66/67 Charger is different than a Coronet. The Charger is stainless, while the Coronet is aluminum. Rich would know for sure.

Thank you my friend and that's what I've always believed to be true as well, so that's why I was surprised to see that the 1967 Factory Parts Book list the 1967 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop as using the same hood lip moulding trim as the 1966 and 1967 Chargers.

The stainless vs aluminum material used is also why I'm sure that Metro doesn't advertise their reproduction 1967 hood lip edge moulding trim as being correct for the 1966 and 1967 Chargers, same design and shape, but different materials used. Metro also does not say that their reproduction 67 Coronet hood trim isn't correct for the 67 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop models either, so that's why I'm thinking that the 67 Factory Parts Book has an error on this listing. The parts book also lists the same clips to attach the hood moulding to the hood on the 67 Coronet 500 hardtops that are used on the 1966-67 Chargers, so that's most likely an error also.

It would have been nice if Chrysler would have used the stainless hood lip moulding on the 66 and 67 Coronets also, as stainless is much easier to maintain than the anodized aluminum used on the 66 and 67 Coronets, but as usual, the "bean counters" won that battle.

Here are the four different part numbers shown for the 1967 Coronet and 1966-67 Charger models:

Part #2586443, all 1966 and 1967 Chargers and 1967 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop models.

Hopefully some of our members who own 1967 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop models will chime in and verify if the 1967 Factory Parts Book is incorrect or not on this specific hood moulding, as it's difficult for me to tell by looking at pictures of these cars on-line.

Hey Richard, the moldings are the same for all 67 Coronets, deluxe, 440, 500, and RT. Charger hood lip moldings are more flat, they do not look like the Coronets. Also the Charger hood lip molding wraps around the hood and takes up the space that the grill creates due to it being farther back. It is also one piece. I'll have to look at my parts book when I get home, I'm at work, you know supposedly working... Don't let the boss find out. LOL

Seriously though, thanks to both you and Mike for confirming my thought that Chrysler made an error on the listing for the hood lip moulding trim for the 1967 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop models in the 1967 parts book. I do still wonder why they would have used a completely different two piece hood lip moulding on the W-E Coronet station wagons, very strange indeed! I've learned to never say never though when it comes to older Mopars!
