3951Here is some more fuel for the fire - this pic is of a '67 Coronet R/T I saw @ MATS this year. Again this one has a padded cone shaped horn button.

Here is a pic of a low mileage original paint and interior '66 hemi Charger that was in the HEMI tent @ MATS. This car was White with Navy Blue interior - check out the horn button...Brown.3952

And just to shake things up even more, here is a pic of Tom Hoovers personal '66 Hemi Coronet 440. It has been restored and is a beautiful car - it has the chrome "Dart" style horn button. Isn't this fun?

I will say that I've never seen a 1966 or 1967 Charger with a chrome horn button on a wood grain wheel, only on A-Body cars and Coronets. These wood grain wheels from 1964 through at least 1966 were originally sold by Chrysler through their Accessory and Dress up Parts program, all with the chrome horn buttons and listed for use on A-Body cars only, so I believe that's why there is so much confusion today regarding the early wood grain wheels.

When I stop and think about the two spoke steering wheels that came on all of the 1966 Coronet 440 and Coronet 500 trim level cars unless they were optioned with the wood grain wheel, all of those two spoke plastic wheels came with full chrome horn rings with the Dodge logo ornament in the middle, (shown below) so one could deduct that all of the colored horn caps listed in the 1966 Factory Parts Book must have been for use on the wood grain wheels even though that was not specified. because those colored horn caps were never used on the plastic two spoke wheels and their full chrome horn rings. Another point is that since the colored horn caps are listed for use on the 1966 WH, WP, RH and RP models, those were also the very same models that could have been optioned with the wood grain wheels and since the 1966 (and 1967) Chargers were listed as W-P models in both of the 1966 and 1967 Factory Parts Books for many of their part listings, they would be included in the colored cap listings as well.

After looking at both my '66 & '67 parts books. I have come to some more conclusions :

1. The cone shaped padded, color coded horn caps were not used in 1967 on B-Bodies. (or A-Bodies)(Charger Excluded) (no p/n's listed in book)

2. The '67 book lists only one "cap" p/n (I'm gonna assume it's the chrome job) for all A&B Bodies and 2 p/n's for the ornament (in center of cap) (one for ply, one or dodge, naturally)

I agree with what you've mentioned above regarding the fact that no colored horn caps are listed in the 1967 Factory Parts Book, but I can not verify if the single cap part number in 1967 is for a chrome cap or not and since the 1967 Chargers did continue to use the padded horn caps, where are the listings for those? There is no part number that I can verify, or even find in any Factory Parts Book from 1964 through 1967 for a chrome horn cap for the wood grain steering wheels, but we know that at least the A-Body cars used them, so where and how are they listed? So far, the only two part numbers that anybody has confirmed for this chrome cap, is part number 2530 255 that Rich gave us and the one that you mentioned which did not come up as a valid part number anywhere that I could find and I don't find the part number that Rich gave us in any Factory Parts Books either, only in the listings below that I posted previously.

The more I try to find answers Jeff, the more questions I come up with. I just can't find any confirmed documentation anywhere that will solve the questions on these wood grain steering wheel horn caps, so that probably means that our answers are hiding in plain sight..
