I contend that the horn button on the red car is incorrect - that is a Dart horn button.

Not to gang up on Richard, but I think I might have to agree with you Jeff. I have the same wheel on my 66 but it has a Plymouth symbol on the horn button. I believe it is a Valiant wheel.

The wheels are all the same, the horn buttons interchange. There is a guy who shows up at the local Sunday car show with an all original, family owned, '65 Dart Gt convertible, 273 4-bbl, 4 speed that has the same set-up as the red car. I've seen a few Darts with 'em.

You both have a 66 wood grain steering wheel and horn button on hand, so I'm going to bow to your wisdom regarding the various horn buttons used with these wood grain steering wheels because I've never owned one, but I will stand by my conviction that all 1966 A and B-Body cars including the Chargers used the same wood grain wheel as shown in the factory parts book in section #19-30-4 under part #4016VTT.

I guess that the 1966 Coronet, Belvedere and Satellite cars that I've seen over the years with the metal horn buttons are using the A-Body horn button then?

I'm certanly not trying to "show anybody up" and I could be wrong. The only thing I can base my opinion on what I have personally experienced. I've been around Mopars my whole life and seen thousands of cars. I've never seen that chrome horn button on a '66 or '67 B-Body Dodge in person, I have seen them on Darts. Again, I could be wrong though!

No worries Jeff and I apologize if you thought that I felt that you were trying to "show anybody up", as that was certainly not my intention.

It would be very nice if someone could produce some sort of factory documentation on these wood grain steering wheel horn buttons to clear up the confusion that's associated with them. The only documentation that I can offer is the 1966 factory parts book which verifies that all 1966 A and B-Body cars used the same wood grain steering wheel, but it's much less clear regarding the horn buttons that were used on that wheel, at least it's not clear to me.

Richard, let me get the what I think is a Valiant horn button off and see if there is a part number. Maybe we can reverse diagnose this.

Oh, and if we could get "Dr. Horn button" himself to join in, he just might give us some insight. After all he was granted the posthumous PHD in horn buttonology.

I remembered this after my last post - I read some information somewhere about the optional wheels where the color of the interior determined what color horn button was used. I'll try to find it - think about it, if the cars came with the chrome button, color would be a non issue. There were some colors (interior) that gave you 2 options and others were only one. I think the buttons were only made in Black, Tan and Red, so naturally if you had a Turquoise interior, you wouldn't get a Red button. My convertible has a Blue interior and it has a Black button. I've seen cars with buttons that match the main color of the interior and I've seen few different colored interiors with a Tan Button. I guess the idea was that the tan button sorta matched the color of the wheel rim....and again I could waaaaaaaay off base. Also I believe it to be entirely possible that a few cars came down the line and got the Chrome button because that was all they had on hand.

Richard - on the last parts page you listed I see the "Horn Cap" code 8-33-17 - they actually list a Blue, Black, Turquoise, Tan, Red & Citron Gold (looks like I was wrong on the colors in my previous post) Although I have never seen a Gold, Blue or Turquoise one. My convertible's trim code is H4 (high, vinyl bench seat), and the body code is WH (Coronet 440) so it looks like the only horn button options for it were Tan, Blue, Black & Red.
