I just got my new ECP 26 inch Aluminum Radiator. $218.00 shipped to the door. Its a nice unit! It bolted right in with no issues!
The only issue is it has no flange to mount the factory shroud.
A friend sugested I use a chrome half shroud made by Trans Dapt or Mr Gasket
Im not too excited on how they make you mount their shrouds to the radiator using the core as the support by passing those plastic rods through the core to mount it.
You could replace the waterpump mounted steel fan with an aftermarket dual fan/shroud unit mounted aft of the radiator? Works great on race cars I have seen a lot of drag racers use them. These electric fans also free up a bit of horsepower that the stock fan uses to run. Just an idea......
Radiator looks nice, and I agree on the not useing plastic mounts on there. Find something that uses the same bolt holes as radiator mount.
Buddy of mine made one out of an old street sign material on his Studebaker, and looked great. Another idea
Thanks guys for the advise. But I think I have a larger problem now. I think I have a blown head gasket. The new radiator and its cap seal very well unlike the old crusty radiator.
My first concern was when I started the car cold with coolant in it. The upper hose became hard as a rock within seconds after startup. It looked like it was going to explode. I took a prestone funnel and put it into the filler neck and over filled it. As the car ran I would get a bubble every 15 seconds come up through the funnel.
As the car heated up the bubbles went to every 30 seconds.
The only two things it could be? Had air still trapped in the system? (GOOD) Or I have a slight head gasket leak cold. Perhaps a re torque might fix it?
I also have a pesky oil leak coming from the driver side rear valve cover/cylinder head area. I have changed that valve cover gasket 3 times. and now im not sure if the oil is coming from the valave cover.
That sounds like air trapped in the system, run it for awhile with the cap off and they should disappear.
if you're still concerned it's a blown head gasket, throw a pressure tester on it (if you have an Advance Auto in the area, they usually have them to borrow). Put pressure in the system, and if it holds, you don't have a leak.
I love Mopars so much I'm date coding the skid marks in my underwear.
I have the same exact problem on my 318 polyblock on the back passenger side. Just a small trickle. I also have what sounds like a sticky valve. Someone has over tightened the cover bolts and actually bent the cover.
