It's an original manual transmission car. With the V8 on the fender it is either and original 383 2bbl 4 spd (one of 13) or something smaller like a 318. Either way they didn't make many manual 440 wagons. One thing for sure...it isn't an original 383 4bbl 4spd with air and manual steering! LOL

Back in the eighties at LACR for a Chrysler Power Nationals event this guy had a suposed factory '66 Coronet 440 wagon 440 4-speed. Car had a very late build date -

They never put any 440s in B-bodies in 66, but they did make 9 383 4Spd wagons in 66. I think Mike saw a 66 4Spd for sale at Englishtown a few years back.

Supposedly because of the late build date of the car and the fact that 440s were available in '67 for the R/T's somehow a 440 found it's way into the car. Naturally I can't confirm it but stranger things have happened on the assembly lines - like putting Dart horn buttons on the wood grain steering wheels in '66 & '67 Coronets!

Oh boy....here we go with the darn wood grain steering wheel debate again! Give me a chrome horn button on a wood grain steering wheel or give me death Jeff! LOL!
I've also never seen any factory documentation on a 440 powered B-Body car in 1966. This 67 Wagon isn't mint but it would be a blast at the race track AND it has M/T valve covers! Richard

I know that there is no documented 440 powered '66's - but maybe somebody made a mistake? Anyway theres no way to prove it but it's a interesting story.

Hello,
I was reading your discussions about the 4 speed wagons; good stuff. I know a guy that has a 66 Dodge Wagon, that originally came with a 361 BB, and a 4 speed. Neat wagon but it's been sitting in his yard for decades so it's sinking into the ground. When he told me about it...I wasn't sure there was such a thing...then he showed it to me...and sure enough...it looks legit. Bench seat and everything. Thanks, Juan. |
