New member with a new car (new for me at least)
#1
Hi All,

Thanks for letting me join. I just purchased a 1958 Coronet 2 door sedan. Right now it's in a driver condition which is fine but I plan on doing some work to it so it's a little nicer to cruise around town with.

Thanks,
Sam

Welcome to the DCR Sam and you my friend have found yourself a fantastic ride!

What plans do you have for the car and do you have any other pictures? We love pictures here on the DCR!

Thanks Richard!

Right now my plans are small. I need to fix a problem with the power steering, seems that the o-rings on the return side are missing so that's the first order of business. Next I need to replace the struts as there's way too much body roll for my liking. I saw a local shop carries a coil over strut/shock kit for the 57-59's so I might give it a try. Next I need to add seat belts to the back, this will be the family cruiser so I need to get the car seats in for my 2 boys. From there I'm hoping to get a new set of rims, slightly bigger, just need to work out the back spacing.

Of course there's a whole lot more I want to do, it needs some body work, minor interior work, some electrical work (the list sounds big but not so bad)

I'll get some more pictures shortly once I get the steering box back together!

Hello Sam,

Sounds like some very good projects there, but I must admit that I really like the wheels and tires that you have on the car now! Cool Is the issue a smaller selection of tires in the 14" wheel size these days? I'm excited to see more pictures of the car when you get a chance as I've always liked the mid to late 1950's Dodge and Plymouth models, so it's nice to have another member on the DCR who owns one! Cool

The idea was to keep the car stock for the most part and lean towards a restoration. But once I got the car and realized that the previous owner made a few changes, the restoration didn't make sense. Instead a few subtle upgrades would be nice. The tires that are on there are toast and need to be replaced. I was thinking about putting on a set of white walls which is still a possibility, I'm just weighting in me options. I know I'll find more options with a larger rim and I can improve the handling a little bit. I'm not looking to make it a daily driver but I was it to handle well enough that I feel comfortable putting a 2 1/2 and 4 y/o in the back seat.
