Since the trans is now out and at the shop being rebuilt. I have a question. What precautions should i take to prolong my rebuild. Also does dropping the trans down to second gear to engine brake to help the car with drum brakes slow down a lil quicker bad for it?

One thing to do is install a transmission cooler. Another is to perform frequent fluid changes and change the filter as well until the break in period is finished. As far as down shifting to second, I have been doing that for decades with no ill effects at all.

I have a cooler in it..i had to put it in before it goes through the radiator though... the other line is bent and i cant get the nut past..may have to put new lines in this winter so i can make it right.

Putting it upflow of the radiator is not all that bad, because it will act as a heater as well. I do that all the time.

A TransGo shift kit is a good idea - it will reduce friction slippage during upshifts (3rd gear clutch & 2nd gear band) On the cooler it is best to use one along with the radiator cooler. Make sure you plumb it so the oil goes to the radiator first then the external cooler. Personally I would not downshift to second to slow the car.

I plumbed my Ram truck 4x4 through the radiator first, then to the cooler like theman440 said. Reason being the fluid warms up faster in the transmission if it is pre-heated before returning to the transmission.

As explained to me by T-Bolt Tom from the old site (he did my 727), if you put the cooler before the radiator, you'll cool the fluid and then re-heat it as it goes thru the radiator. By putting it after the radiator, the fluid gets cooled first by the radiator, and then even more by the external cooler. It's especially helpful in the summer time and if a motor runs warmer than normal.
Here's a good article on heat and transmissions, and a easy bolt on that drops fluid temperature even more.

Just so you know the trans fliud flows out of the front trans cooler fitting on the trans to the radiator then back in the rear fitting.

Ok one more..how often sghould fluid be changed in a 727 that is just street driven mostly putting around town and stuff?
