67 coronet r/t fender tag inquiry
#1
so I'm new here and didn't really no where to put this. I'm looking at buying a coronet r/t project car and seller says it's the original 440 but there's no fender tag, so I don't no how he can say that. he's not the original owner and knows basically no history on the car. the vin number ws23L71254342. does anyone no resources that will tell me what the fender tag is?
thanks

Welcome, the vin states that it's a 440 car, but remember, all RT's came with the 440 standard, the hemi was the only engine option. WS Coronet RT 23 2 dr hd tp L 440 7 1967 1 Lynch road plant The rest is just the sequence number. I did that off the top of my head, hope I'm right...

You did good off the top of your head Rich, I have a hard time doing that at my age!! I'm scared of cars with no VIN# and/or Fender tag, but that's my 2cents!! Auto or 4 speed, does it have a 8 3/4 or Dana rearend?? By the way, Welcome to the DCR!!
Objects quickly DISAPPEAR in the rearview mirror and PLEASE stay seated until the ride comes to a complete stop!!

The VIN and fender tag would tell you it came with a 440 by the explanation above. Whether or not it's the ORIGINAL 440 is still another matter. Since 67's do not have a VIN number stamped on them, you'll have to try and determine if the engine could be the original one another way. Check the assembly date on the pad on the front of the engine. Does the year and date code (look for C440 plus a month a day code like 926 and HP) The engine assembly code SHOULD normally be before before the scheduled production date (SPD) of the car. Since it's a 67 you can check the SPD by looking on the front radiator support. Check the pad first. No HP stamp = not original. Then check the assembly date code then check the radiator support. In the example posted, the B23 is the SPD or November 23rd. 1788

the vin # is on the inside of the drivers door and I do remember seeing HP2 and the C440 on the block while I was looking it over.
