A story about build sheets.
#1
As some of you know, or not........we bought our Bee new. Sometime in about 1975, or 76....I know about when because of where I was washing the car, and found this wad of paper under the seat. It was starting to shred, was sort of newsprint paper with a whole bunch of numbers and codes; mostly unreadable and I had no idea just what this was. I threw it away. It was not until many years later when I was asked about the "build sheet" and it was described to me that I even thought about this again. So mine was not "lost", I know where it went, I sure wish that I'd have known what it was away back then!

Paper trail is a great thing, but won't make it any less of a car in my opinion.
you bought your car new and you still own and enjoy it, congratulations

I agree with Andy, it's not a big deal. The plus side is there might me annother one hidden in the car someplace.

Great Story! But at least you know where it went and you have owned since the beginning so there's no mystery about what happened to it Smile

It is not uncommon to find 2 build-sheets in the same car, I found 2 in my 70 Coronet... One behind the back seat (most common place), and one behind the passenger side bucket seat back... Both went to my car ... I have also found them under the dash, by the glove-box under or in the back of the drivers bucket seat, and under the carpet. I have even heard of someone finding one between the gas tank and trunk... But like the others are saying, that's more important when your fender tag is missing and your trying to document the factory options it had... If you bought the car new, you know what options it had and there is no reason to need the documentation. Dont feel bad for pitching it, most of us don't find them anyway, especially with project cars, the mice get to them first! Your fender tag will document most of what the build sheet would, any important options would be stamped on there anyway. I also think its very awsome you are the original owner...

Thanks to all. I've crawled all over, under, through and over my Bee and this one had only one sheet. I am not particularly upset about it, just a story about these things when they weren't "collector cars", just grocery getters. My wife found some original car papers a while back, those are now in a file. I will keep those for whoever gets this thing when I have to quit driving.............hopefully a long while yet!!!

Found two in my 72 wagon. Oddly enough the original owner stopped by the other day to see the car. He had it 28 years before selling it to his neighbor, she gave me the car.

Don't feel bad. There is a possibility it may not have been for your car to begin with. Often, the wrong build sheet was placed in a car.
